Cardan Shaft - Propshaft carrier bearing

Post by RS6-T28RPH » Mon Oct 01, 2018 11:05 am

So finally got to the point where I need to replace the carrier bearing, took a punt on a £40 ebay part and annoyingly the centre part of the bearing has been put together the wrong way round, as a result it will not fit against the gearbox end of the propshaft correctly. Bit of a sh!tter when you've already go everything stripped down.

Anyway, long story cut short, theres a propshaft company in St Neots called Bailey Morris that seem to have these brand new on the shelf (http://baileymorris.co.uk), managed to get a complete new propshaft delivered next day for £650ish having spoken to Andy in parts & service. The price I got is trade due to an existing relationship through a mechanic colleague of mine but would have thought you could still save a few quid compared to TPS price of around £1200.

I recently had my carrier bearing replaced, and now the shaft is rattling and clunking badly, I suspect the company who put the shaft back together did so improperly or else these shafts really never were meant to be split, hence Audi recommending they be replaced as a unit.

I'm awaiting a GKN replacement through ECP however its on backorder and I'm getting slightly impatient to the point I may well go for this one if it's not here soon.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Will call him today, hopefully they're not a hugely in demand item and there's one left. Thanks for the recommendation
