Cup holder lid replacement

Post by Doug_RS6 » Mon Sep 24, 2018 11:04 pm

Hi folks. My 08 C6 RS6 has the carbon fibre trim, the lid that covers the cup holder has a split in the resin. I've found a replacement one from an S6. Is the carbon likely to match well?

Mine has done the same, and was wondering the same. Will a replacement match line up or should you change the whole lot

Certainly wont be changing the whole lot at the price it is.

Could the lid not be wet sand back and re laquered? Or has the split gone right through? I imagine someone could reweave it or make it very unnoticeable

It's split quite deeply and also the whole layer is lifting near the silver part. I had thought about repairing it but I'd rather just swap it out if possible for a sensible price.

Well I've ordered the ebay replacement. Coming from the US so will see what it's like.

Fitted a replacement one from EBay. American seller. Looks near enough spot on.

Just to add it's a bit of a pain of a task for such a small part to replace. Not hard though, fiddly. Only tools needed are a T30 torx screw driver and a 13mm socket and small extension. Some plastic trim removal tools will help.

Just out of interest does the pattern line up with the new one, assuming yours did before (pattern lines up on mine)?

and I'm in no way promoting the use of this (crap) but if you were on a budget (unlikely on an RS6!!!) you always had this option

Yeah. It's not 100% match colour wise. But close enough rather than 300 quid from Audi and they couldn't promise it would match. I did consider gloss wrapping it.

I thought the S cars used a different weave to the RS range.

The one I got looks pretty close like. It's from the US so must be for an S6 as they didn't get the C6 RS6.
