Re: Gearbox Teardown & Refurbish - 6HP28A61
... and I can confirm these are a ball ache to remove stripped every single one on both coolers got most off but two one in each remaining the gearbox coolers are recessed which doesn’t help when using little torx keys yes I know but a wrench was just making it worse ps don’t use little torx keys you will hit your fingers against the coolers and cut your them!ATinOf wrote: ↑Mon Sep 03, 2018 12:24 pmNow to remove the oil coolers, starting with the transfer diff oil cooler. It seems we have some more screws to order; malgrips put to use again!
These screws are Audi supply; 01V 919 838, although they are the same M6 x 15 Torx fixings as the cooler pipe screw; ZF dont list them for the gear oil coolers.
After the transfer diff cooler remove the gearbox oil cooler adjacent

Transfer case magnet
The bearing in the transfer case seems to have lot of play when the output shaft is out maybe this is normal maybe At can comment on this.

Don’t worry your sump bolts won’t be as mix matched as mine

That's an E-torx bolt / hexalobular head screw.
Sometimes you can undo them with a wall-drive hex socket or a bi-hex socket, but for modern German cars it's best to have a proper set of E-Torx sockets, and I wouldn't risk it.

Re: Gearbox Teardown & Refurbish - 6HP28A61
Does anyone know what these two are for front diff? Next to the oil coolers
Re: Gearbox Teardown & Refurbish - 6HP28A61
Sump looks clean but then again it had oil and filter to see if it would fix it remember to inspect the magnets
Re: Gearbox Teardown & Refurbish - 6HP28A61
Got the sump off everything looks clean At has two blue solenoids and I have two green ?
Re: Gearbox Teardown & Refurbish - 6HP28A61
Got the main torx that hold the it to the gearbox but it wouldn’t budge I suspect that this selector is interfering.

Be careful when turning the box over there’s “overflow” in the bell housing oil will leak
