Tyres?
Tyres?
afternoon,
fronts on my car are getting low and i'm planning to replace them very soon. Overall I'm very pleased with Conti's that are on it but was wondering should I be considering any other make/model?
This is somewhat subjective topic I know but i'd be keen to know what do you normally look out for in tyres as from my point of view I always opt for low "noise" .
Thx and look fwd to your feedback.

Re: Tyres?
Michelin Pilot sport 4’s were my recent choice and have to say they are a massive improvement to the Nangkangs that were on there
Re: Tyres?
I've only ever used Michelin Pilot Super Sports (MPSS) on mine and they're my preference. They've given me the best balance of excellent dry grip, very good wet grip and OK cold weather grip (down to 6'c) even on trackdays (when at 740hp) and on the road at the current 900hp. Additionally the wear is excellent - around 12k miles to a set after some very hard use and tyre noise is very good except on the southern section of the Concrete M25 by Gatwick which is a nightmare!
The MPSS has been getting replaced by the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S (MPS4S, NOT the MPS4 - that is a different tyre) for a few years now and is also getting good reviews but I haven't tried it yet.
I've not tried them but I understand Continental Sport 6's (CS6's) are a tiny bit better in the dry and equivalent wet/cold but wear much faster (1/2 the mileage of MPSS).
I've used Goodyear Eagle AS3's on my older C5 RS6 and they weren't as good in the dry as the MPSS but were much better in the wet and cold and also lasted quite well at 10k+ miles.

Re: Tyres?
I found decent deal on oponeo for G'year's @155 each... and they also have Vredestein's at similar price which I found super amazing on 5-series I had before.
I know it's a close call and I will hardly hit performance criteria for either, but considering RS is such a heavy car, any suggestions which ones would be more "appropriate" in your opinion? or perhaps any other make to throw into the mix as i'm not bound to specific manufacturer/tyre type?
Cheers.

Re: Tyres?
I used to have MPSS on my S8 and that concrete section of M25 between Leatherhead and the M23 was ear-splitting! That's on 20's.IanH755 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 11:49 pmtyre noise is very good except on the southern section of the Concrete M25 by Gatwick which is a nightmare!

(Though the Contis on my other car are pretty louds there too!)
I moved to the amazing MPS4S over a year ago and couldn't recommend them more. The M25 is definitely more tolerable now as well.
Though I do have 18" winter wheels and tyres (Pirelli Sottozero W240-II) so neither Michelin types have been used in really cold weather, nor will they be.
What size wheels do you have? I don't think MPS4S are available above 20" yet.

Re: Tyres?
There were P-Zeros on my car when I got it and I've stuck with them as I get around 15K between changes. The current set are PNCS which has made a noticeable difference to the road noise.
Grip-wise they seem pretty good, the only time I felt I had an issue was on a wet twisty road when they were pushing minimum depth.

Re: Tyres?
i fitted Pzeros to mine a few months back and unfortunately i really dont like them, i really wanted PS4 or PSC2's as thats what we usually run on our cars but the wait was far to long (weeks) and i have acut tyre that needed replacing that day.
If i had the option to run advan AD08 neovas i would get them in a heart beat, but the sizes are non existent.

Re: Tyres?
I finally settled on Eagle F1's... hope they'll be okay and i'll report on how I get on with them in few weeks .

Re: Tyres?
i did nearly 3k miles this summer while in Europe and also took the car to N'ring on the way back... they've been absolutely fine. I cannot complain both noise and grip wise.
FYI - I got them via Oponeo.co.uk @299 a pair (delivered)... add another 15-30quid for fitting and you'll be happy chap .
all the best!

Re: Tyres?
Currently looking at a set of MPS4S and have been told Bridgestone potenza s001 are as good, just wondering if anyone here has used them as they've not been mentioned yet.
185 potenza and 194 MPS4S so not a lot in it.

Re: Tyres?
Mine has recently been treated to MPS4S all round and after 1K miles i also concur - a fine tyre indeed, if somewhat pricey
Re: Tyres?
I'd been told I'd never in a million years see the esp light with MPS4Ss standard power and I've seen it several times now. Maybe I just drive too hard haha
Great tire none the less
