Car wouldn't start....

Well, after 3.5 yrs of ownership it finally happened, something went wrong!

Yesterday, car would turn over but not fire.

Ran VCDS on it today, showed signal line for fuel pump failure.

After googling, I stripped out the boot, and took the covers off the battery. God bless the internet!

The line fuse for the fuel pump relay looked ok, but I took a close up pic with my phone and it actually had a hairline fracture in it! Must have intermittently been touching for a while?

It must have fractured through age/vibration.

Temporary repair (bodge) done, until I get a replacement.

Car seems to be running fine again.

Something to check whilst you're around the battery is the vent pipe. Last weekend I found that mine was floating free rather than being inserted in the battery.
And just to wind up my OCD, when I eventually found the blown fuse for the front cig lighter I discovered that the two fuse carriers in the boot are mounted with fuse #1 at the bottom.
At least I've now got 12v power at all sockets.

Hahaha!! I bought one a while ago just to have it in case of failure as it seems to be quite common. Can't remember how much but I don't think it was that expensive. You should go to TPS instead. Just say that you're collecting. If it's someone decent on the other end of the phone he'll give you a good discount for all parts you order.

Nearest TPS is Ipswich 20 miles away, false economy sadly.

Yeah for something that small it's not worth the extra travelling.
