Relatively new owner and upgrades so far

Post by Johno999 » Tue Apr 10, 2018 11:53 am

Hi all, its good to be part of this group and hello from Baghdad (hot & sunny and an ok place to work)

Ok, so wanted one of these beasts from the first moment I saw the car but, unfortunately, was way out of my price range until the prices dropped :boohoo:
Finally in late 2016, I took the plunge and decided to actively look for one to purchase, as I spend a lot of my "off" time in Germany, the German forecourts and internet sites became my search ground.
So September comes around and I find her, 2008 Sepang Blue with 74,000 Kms on the clock, full options and I do mean full (ACC, ceramics, Bose, soft close, solar etc etc) Oh and stage 2 MTM tune and MTM cat back valved exhaust. One test drive later and, of course, fell in love, negotiated, agreed and she was mine. :biggrin2:
Likewise with all new owners, drive, drive and more driving and being blown away by the thrust and the noise from the exhaust (autobahns are my new playground lol) and a lot of time filling up with 102 octane. But after a while, you start to think "what to do next".
So off the car went to one of the garages I know in Berlin in November 2017, full respray and ceramic coating, interior detail, full service, leather cleaning, colouring and nourishing, install stealth radar detector, paint roof bars and mirrors, de-chrome badges and grill and a few other minor bits. Finally picked her up again about 2 months later when I returned to Germany and WOW, the transformation was amazing!

The bad points, during the service they noticed an oil leak from the engine (yep, you guessed correctly) and this was something that they didn't want to do, as they are not specialised with RS6 and working around this huge engine that's been shoe-horned into an A6. Drove back home, put in garage, cover up, battery tender on and leave until next time.
Fast forward to March 2018, arranged an appointment with MRC for health check, inspection and dyno check, drove across from Germany and delivered to MRC in the morning, with the arrangement being that I would leave the car with them to fix anything they found. On the dyno first and only making 650HP instead of the claimed 742HP from MTM, as we know rolling roads produce different results but this was quite a drop and the torque figures were well down on MRC figures of a stage 2 tune.

Inspection confirmed oil leak (engine out job), replace coolant lines - so corroded I'm surprised they lasted that long, replace NSFF and OSFF upper arm, NSFR and OSFR upper arms and replace drop links. But apart from the things mentioned, she was in good shape. You know how it is, you get talking and before you know it, you have agreed on MRC stage 2 remap, gearbox service and remap, KW springs, full service, spark plugs, re-gas DRC after lowering etc etc. Wow - how the costs mount up lol.
Left the car with them to carry out the magic and drove over to see Trups reference the crap headlights and options to go for, we had already been in contact via email to discuss a quad headlight conversion and interior light kit and the new projectors and shrouds that he would install. As I write, the car is finished, the headlights are still being worked on and hopefully within the next week, they will be installed back on the car, adjusted and setup and she's ready for collection and some night time driving (which was impossible before).
So.................. I'm ever so slightly excited at the prospect of flying over next week, seeing the finished beast and enjoying the blast back to Germany, albeit with a much dented bank account lol.
Attached a few pics, standard on day of pick up, some bad quality ones during and after re-spray and will post more when I have the chance. Want to say a big thank you to MRC for fitting the car into their busy schedule, Trups for still working his magic on the headlights (I believe the phrase is going to be like night and day) and my bank manager for funding this lol.

Stay safe out there Johno! I liked the few bits of Baghdad I got to see in '07 but not enough to visit now I've left the Military and don't have a few tons of armour around me :D

Thanks mate. Lots of work and even more money!! Kinda went in open eyed on the maintenance and servicing costs but if something goes really wrong or you want upgrades doing, then huge $$$$$$$$$$$. But hey, you only live once and it may as well be doing Mach 1 in a RS6 :biggrin3:

Thanks for the compliment :) Haven't seen her since I dropped her off there, but I'm sure she's in good hands and being looked after. Really hope they gave her a wash as covered in salt and road grime from the drive over, sooooooo hopefully ready for collection around the 20th and will be at MRC for the ceremonial handing over of keys and copious amounts of money :jump:

Hi Ian, likewise mate, left military early 2000, looked for work in UK which TBH was going nowhere, heard on the grapevine about jobs in Iraq (carrying guns too - woo hoo) so signed on the line and deployed 2004. Wasn't really expecting a taxi to take me from Amman, cross the border, transit Anbar and drop me at final destination, but hey, that was the early days (where's the "I was so stupid emoji") lol. Anyway, still here but changed jobs along the way and love it. BTW - you would not recognise this place from 2007, major changes but no real improvements to anything!!

Lot of work there, good to see. That blue is a great colour for an RS6.

I love the wheels in the titanium, I managed to pick up a brand new set in Germany but they’re in Audi silver, I need to get them painted in the titanium they came from the factory in. I love the colour!!
