Rear Boot Issue - Pain in the A@S% !!

Hi all
Yes I am an infrequent poster and join in when something goes wrong !!!
Well my boot ( Avant ) is being an arse !!!
It closes perfectly but only opens about 12 inches when i press the keyfob or open from the drivers door resulting in me looking like Rambo hoisting it open which it does with a ratcheting type movement ....
Generally i then end up pushing the close button by accident and to all passers by look like I am having a fight with my car - not only uncool but hard bloody work as these germans are tough !!!
I have spent £80 or just short of replacing the two rear struts ( must remember when doing it next time to get someone to hold the boot once I force away the clip !!!!! ) but no improvement at all so whats next on the to do list before the wife eyes the bulging biceps with suspicion and changes parental control on the wifi !!
Any suggestions appreciated
Ty and Herman the German Bas$%r@ !!

OMG - I really should learn to read manuals !!
That was £80 wasted
Thank you very much and delighted to be able to use the boot again

Haha, no problem!
I'm going to be changing my struts for the boot too - I find that the boot slams shut just a bit when it gets to the bottom. Not that bad but certainly a bit more of a slam than the C7 does.
Were the new struts that you got black?
The reason why I ask is that I was wondering whether there was a chrome option for the strut, just the same as Highline trim Passats (B5.5 platform at least) that I think is a nice touch that I would like on the RS 6.

I like the look of those !! Mine are black although I still have the old ones which were probably fine and guess i could chrome the top parts but not the bottom part as it would wear
Interesting to see if they would work

That Chrome strut looks like a Phaeton one?

Yeah, they do look nice and were fitted as standard on Highline trim VW Passats and Elegance trim Skoda Superbs. I don't *think* the C5 A6/RS 6 got them. They are a nice extra touch that was only appreciated by the few that noticed them - which seems to be a thing of the past with the VW group. I haven't looked into whether any C6 A6 trim had a chrome strut, which I will find out at some point. If I can't find any chrome replacements I will see about how it can be done via any other method!

Hello Ian - no, here is a Phaeton one;

- Phaeton boot hinge/strut from pistonheads.com
Notice the chunkier and nicer hinge.
And also here is a Skoda Superb too;

A strange thing is though that the Highline Passats got a chrome strut on the bonnet which the Superbs did not. Photo is a from a Passat W8 but this wasn't a W8 only thing;

I think it would be a nice touch on the RS 6 and should have really came with them from factory. I'll report back when I get round to getting them.

It was the strut I was asking about rather than the hinge as both images have the same horizontal line on the strut in what looks like the same place.
