Am I right, or am I wrong? (updated)

Post by drybeer » Sat Feb 03, 2018 8:49 pm

Hello.

Used to have a C5 for years, and before that a B6 S4 and earlier a B5 S4.

Been away from RS246 for around 2 years as I was without a dog I didn't need an extra Avant on days off, so I decided to buy another Porsche 911... And that's been really good fun, more involving driving experience and if I'm honest - more reasonable running costs and so on.

More recently I've bought another dog so am considering buying a C6.

Luckily I work at an Audi centre so I'm more confident than most when it comes to servicing and repairs - so my question is:

Am I right to love this car because the colour is unique and dare I say it... suits the car? Probably the only UK car so specified?

OR:

Am I wrong, in a new level of wrongness even compared to most people on this forum, and the colour is batshit awful?

Answers gratefully accepted below!

(sorry - edited to add link to advertisement. I did say I'd been away for 2 years...)

I personally love it, it's crying out for tan leather rear tints and carbon inlays

Carbon - I’m with you - or possibly Piano lacquer.

Tan leather - not so much...

Cheers Brooner...

The interior inlays I would deffo prioritise to change as and when OEM replacements crop up second hand, but the wheels / chrome I hadn't planned changing as I prize originality.

Wheels are an easy job to source - even plastidip is possible - but has anyone seen a good job done of coating the mat alu trims in gloss black? I'd be concerned with a paint job it would leave them unable to return to standard... (I accept changing to brand new parts is the perfect way to do it - but at some expense - grill our of bumper, headlining dropped to get at the captive nuts for the roof rails and side rear windows out for the trim strips)

^ wrap the trim. Internal and external. Job done, cheap, reversible and good results.

The green looks great on most fast Avant a. Go for it if everything else stacks up.

I like it! You're right about the 'old man wood' inlays. Hydro dipping could also be an option?

I thought about that too - but wasn’t sure how to keep the metalwork around the edges of the interior trim and also the Quattro badge unaffected.

Hi drybeer,

If you are thinking about this Monterrey Green RS 6, then be sure to have a good look at it (I'm sure you will anyway) as I am positive that the same car was on AutoTrader back in August as I remember noticing it on the AutoTrader website. It was originally listed, I think for £23,500 or possibly £24,000 (put it this way - a lot less than what it is listed at now) and it sat for ages and the price kept going down. I'm positive I saw it listed at £23,000 last month and now it has appeared again (I think at a different dealer?) for £26,000. It sounds to me that it's possible that it has had it's coolant pipes replaced and oil pump seal replaced - hence the reason for it sitting so long and then the increase in price.

But as I said I am only guessing. Perhaps it sat so long because of the combination of the colour and the nutmeg trim . I stopped checking as regularly after I got my RS 6 in August.

Good luck in your search!

Thanks Douglas. I am still sitting on the fence and tbh after a quick drive in the Porsche today I don’t think I can be forced to part with it.
