Rear discs

Post by Jim Haseltine » Sun Jan 21, 2018 2:28 pm

Less than pleased to discover a few minutes back that both rear discs appear to be cracked. Even less pleased because they are less than 2 years old.
Is that the sort of life I'm going to get out of them?

OE steel discs (and pads) fitted at the end of May 2016. Car has covered 20K miles since then, rarely driven hard and I'm never hard on brakes.
First time in 30+ years driving that I've has cracked discs.

And I'm going to need VCDS to work on the rear brakes - yes?
I'd been planning to go to APs on the front this year, looks like it's going to be all round instead.

Yeah VCDS to release the handbrake. Cracking the rears after 20k is some "good" going though, especially both sides. I wonder if the rear callipers are dragging slightly?

Not noticed anything when I've had the wheels off the ground, but:
Part of the deal when I bought the car was an Audi check over and replacement of the rear discs & pads.
The documents I've got contain an Audi receipt listing the check and a replacement cam sensor but nothing for the brakes.
The discs were obviously new when I collected the car but as there's no receipt so I'm wondering who changed them and how.
No matter really, I'll keep an eye on things and change them when the weather warms a bit.
List of work is getting longer by the day.

Welcome to the RS6 Life. Yes You need VCDS to release the handbrake. it will give out an error but that is fine.

mine rusted and has a slight cracks around 25k miles. I resurfaced them and after 6k now I think they need a change. went with ATP brake pads which were not bad but not the best.

I might go all brembo again with new discs. everyone seems to like pigid for some reason or another, you might want to give that one a shot.
