Taking the car to the garage today to get the Ghost system fitted. About to enter a roundabout and the car dies, nothing happens on the button. Car just turns and turns but not firing, now got half of Glasgow behind me getting upset. Call the recovery and they go through the safety speil about putting hazards on and stuff. After about 3 or 4 minutes i try the button and it fires but there is no Check Engine lights on the dash. I head off the roundabout and head into a local estate and wait for recovery. Wait about an hour and low loader appears and sets about wanting to winch the car n the back, i tell him to drive it on gently and she starts fine. Get the car to the garage and car wont fire on the back of low loader, we let it roll off gently and when she is level , she fires but the Check Engine light on and she lasts about 2 mins then shuts off.
Car is now getting the diagnostics done for the warranty company and should find out tomorrow what the script is
Anyone had any similar experience with the car just shutting down, had a trawl back though some pages but nothing similar was spotted
Now got a Seat Ibiza 1.2 Courtesy Car, FML but i am grateful to the garage for offering a solution that does not involve me and public transport
Car not want to start
Re: Car not want to start
Hi,
Sorry to hear this. I've not seen or heard of anything similar on this forum either. It's a bit of a strange one but sounds as if it could potentially be caused by water getting into an electrical control box.
In fact, come to think of it I have heard of a *similar* thing happen on a W12 VW Phaeton, where it was being caused by water ingress leading to under the carpets being like a swimming pool and obviously everything under there including the immobiliser control unit. This would be worth a check as VAG platforms always seem to have some owners complaining about water ingress and I'm sure I've seen it mentioned in this forum a few times.
Once they get the codes, these would help a bit more. Hope this helps.

Re: Car not want to start
Looks like it is fuel pump relay related?
Need to track down wether it is relay, pump or wiring causing the issue.
Got the Ibiza 1.2 torque monster till Monday

Re: Car not want to start
I had something similar but on a beemer. It was the crank sensor playing up. One minute it was fine, then next it would cut out or not start.

Re: Car not want to start
Crank or cam sensor was my first suspect but the Fuel Relay area fits the bill for the symptoms.
Probably find out Monday what the script is regarding getting it sorted so i am confident that i am not gonna get trapped on roundabout at rush hour...........again

Re: Car not want to start
Well, the crank sensor usually controls the fuel pump as far as I'm aware. Hope it gets sorted.
