garage floor - what works?

What have you folk done with your floor?

My garage is 14 years old, and painted at the start with specific paint but a few years in the paint started lifting and any other paint i've tried hasn't lasted.
I likeed the idea of ceramic tiles, but haven't found a local tiler that has any experience in doing a garage (saying it's be the same as any other floor didn't give me great confidence but what i know)

plastic tiles make sense, but trapping dirt and dust might hide the problem, but easy to do myself

have thought about some type of vinyl or carpet tile approach, but can't see that putting up with the abuse etc.


Am thinking of epoxy, end result looks amazing but cost is a little scary, however if it last and works, maybe...

So what's everyone else done, or going to do?

I used a company called Rtek for interlocking tiles .

I went with epoxy. €600 was the total. This was for primer and then the top coat.

i am about to lay ceramic tiles. Spoke to a comapny called garage concept solutions who were great, they did an amazing garage near me and advised against the foam matts. Said water gets through them and then starts to smell and go mouldy. I will probably lay a tile under each wheel ontop of the tile to try and prevent flat spots.

The problem with paint is it'll get wrecked with hot tyres and chipped

I bought Ecotile ( https://www.interlocking-flooring.online/) plastic tiles which I'm very happy with. The ones I got don't have any gaps to expose the joints, but even if you did get the ones with exposed joints they are treated not to encourage mould growth IIRC

Check the special offer pages, most of the "leftover" quantities available are big enough for average double garage, and you save about 50%

Epoxy is far better than paint, which as mentioned is wrecked by hot tyres, but you need to go for quality (100% solids) epoxy.
Much depends on what use the floor gets - if it's just for the car to drive over and stand on then it'll last for a long time if the concrete surface has been properly cleaned and prepared. If you're looking at a working area where you can jack the car then it's not going to last as long.
As with anything paint or coating related, preparation is the key.

(100% solids) epoxy is what i've decided on after much debate, research and procrastination.

seems a labour intensive approach but hopeful the end result will be worth it. i don't do much heavy duty maintenance (not got the height for starters) but wanted something to keep clean, last a long time and have a finish that made it stand out from the crowd. diamond grinding the surface seems to be the first step

i went self leveling and epoxy - professionally applied... dont ask as it wasn't cheap

the normal approach seems to be 'shades of grey' so i'm going to try something different to be... different.

so thinking bright red at the mo, we have a white audi cab and the black C6, so should work. blue was a very strong contender, like the way you'll have a blue car on a blue floor, does it work well?
