How often should the above be changed please?
I think Audi class it as sealed for life (

) but I'm not convinced.
Any thoughts please?
Ta.

I tend to over-maintain my cars so bear that in mind (and my power figure) as I know this is definately excessive but I'll be doing mine every 20k miles along with the GB oil change. It's an extra £50-70 for 5L of oil for all 3 diffs (depending on brand) and I like Motul 300 and 300 LS but OEM should be fine on everything upto & including a stage 2 car.

i just did my rear diff with with motel gear 300 very good oil ester based so its quality is many times that of oem , can be had for about £10 - £15 per litre so the same as genuine prices but a lot better quality ,
what did you use in the transfer box and final drive of the gearbox ian ? as i am led to believe you may need a friction modifier in the transfer box ?

The 300 LS has the friction modifier and would be for the transfer box & front diff (aka the "final drive") as they share the same oil supply and the 300 is for the rear diff (all 75W-90).

to make sure we are on about the same part of the box , as audi call it "final drive oil" in the front of the box. on the link bellow oil 6 is transfer with friction modifier or lsd oil 75/90. the final drive oil 5 your saying you just filled with standard gear 300 75-90 . do you know how much audi charge for that "final drive oil " over £100 per litre. if it is thats handy as i have half a tub left so ill get another and over haul the box whilst doing its atf.
http://www.oemepc.com/audi/part_single/ ... 450/lang/e
also what methods have people used for changing atf ? 3 spring to mind
flush leaving the pan and filter on and pushing all the old fluid out, by there way of a flush machine connected to the oil cooler lines.
drop the pan and replace filter and oil you manage to remove about 7L out of 10.5 according to zf kit.
or apparently some remove mechatronic unit and drain that and blow out the torque convert getting as close to a full removal as possible.

Just to clear up any confusion (I've also edited my post above too) - "Final Drive" is the front diff and both the Final Drive and Transfer box use the same oil supply (75w-90) which requires the friction modifier fluid (Motul 300 LS etc). The final drive doesn't actually need the modifier but it gets it's oil from the same tank as the transfer box.
The rear diff alone uses "normal" 75w-90 diff oil (Motul 300 etc).
ATF Change - MRC/Unit20 both use option 2 (drop pan/filter) however after inspection of the GB oil, Unit20 (who I asked) said they can get the oil left in the Torque Converter sucked out too, but thats pretty rare according to Grizz.

I thought so much Ian , that's what confused my oil supplier as audi call it final drive oil . they share the same part no on inspection so that helps, plus Audi charging £108.17 per 1L tub and you need 3 is daylight robbery ! So motul gear 300 lsd oil it is !
Yeah my local Audi specialists wanted to do it that way. I just hate the taught of leaving a about a 1/5 of my fluid in the torque converter

You cannot go wrong with the Motul we get oil analysis on all our race car (clients and personal) sump / gb / diff oil drops and the motul fares better than just about anything we have tested.

Any idea of the cost to have this done at a specialist?

Just drained the rear diff. About 1litre came out.
