Do you want coils with that?

Post by Jim Haseltine » Wed Jan 11, 2017 8:02 pm

Ordered some bits & pieces at my LMF today, including a set of plugs for the RS.
"Do you want coils?"
'Wut?"
"Coils - you've ordered plugs, you'll want coils as well"
*checks date - not April 1st
"Coils. Really?"
"Yes, the plugs will work better if you fit new coils and I can give you some extra discount if you buy them now"

Yeah, right.....

Well, its taken best part of a month but today one of my rare days off work coincided with some dry weather so I cracked on with changing the plugs.
Other than having to hunt around in my tool draws to locate a combination of ratchet extensions which would fit in the available space, it wasn't as bad a job as I'd imagined. My only real problem (other than a previous mechanic refitting just about every clip in the most bloody awkward place possible) was the ribbed breather pipe between the oil separator on the head and the oil tank which firstly wouldn't come off, then wouldn't go back on again and finally disintegrated in my hands.
Left rear coil pack came out once I'd removed a clip to allow a pipe to move a bit and right rear (which wasn't fully home anyway) was no problem after I removed the separator.
During a previous plug change somebody had broken the retainers on two coil connectors but knowing what they're like I had a couple of new ones just in case, so they're done too.
So, a set of plugs, BMC filters and a couple of new boots tomorrow, I'll have to be careful else 'erindoors will think I've had a pay rise.
