Changing Headlight bulb / replacement looks tricky !

Post by boba fett » Tue Jan 10, 2017 5:33 pm

Hi guys, I have searched google and this forum about a headlight (high beam) replacement how to.

Both headlights look a complete nightmare to change, so I'm After a "how to" if anyone can help.

I would also like to dry out a bit of condensation as well :beerchug: :beerchug:

Thanks in advance.

Not done it my self but looking at it will be a bumper removal to take the headlights out and do the bulbs.

Does anyone have a list of all the types of bulbs in the front as I may do all mine whilst I have the front end off

Thanks, surly Audi would not develop a car to have major surgery to change a bloody light bulb.

This is a slow forum as well :bigblink: :bigblink: :bigblink:

It can be slow depends on the topic ! , yeah a lot of cars are like this even with a lot smaller engines , my old audi s3 you had to go through the arch linings but it was just easier to remove the bumper !

You'd think, but they've got previous :- 1980-91 Ur quattro right hand headlight bulbs - remove fixings from headlight trims and radiator grill, detach right head light trims from radiator grill and wing, remove right headlight.
You won't believe what you have to do to replace the air filter if you don't want to dismantle the injection system.

Xenon headlight bulbs last for ages and it's not a common thing to change.
my last car had the genuine units in for about 12 years before blowing.
but you will have to take the bumper off it's will only take about 40 mins and basic tools

Well they have and if you would have taken the time to use the forum search options you would have found that I brought this subject up recently and other members had provided ample information as to how to do it.

Here is a link to the thread viewtopic.php?f=47&t=122488 ....And yes it is a PITA job to do for a simple bulb change.

Despite being the biggest C5-C7 owners website in the UK, with only 20-30 owners being active (daily to weekly) posters in the C6 area, and with the job involving a bumper removal for access, it's probably unsurprising that few have done the job themselves (IIRC User Manual says take it to Audi?) and then gone on to made a specific "how to" as well. However this forum contains a vast amount of knowledge if you search for it.

For example I've just added a How To in the following thread which also includes a whole bunch of other How To's taken directly from Elsawin - viewtopic.php?f=47&t=119322

My recommendation for any owner is get hold of a copy of VCDS and ELSAWIN as the two will be to help with 90% of the questions you have.
