Revo Stage 1?

Post by Vieussuex* » Sat Nov 26, 2016 12:23 pm

I've been meaning to flash my rs6 for some time now and with the Black Friday sales was able to get a 25% discount on a Revo Stage 1 tune by signing up with them.

Now I don't have the tune yet will likely get it loaded early December so I was wondering if anyone here has tried or currently have a Revo Stage 1 tune to provide some feedback on performance?
Revo claim anywhere from 685-715hp subject to a host of things such as hardware, fuel and environment(temp) etc.
I've already got ITG filters and a Miltek exhaust fitted.

Off the shelf tunes that are supported here are ABT, APR, Revo and MTM. Custom tunes....... I'm a little concerned with as I don't believe any tuner here has much experience tuning the 5.0l v10 Twin Turbo engines in Australia......unless MRC want to open a Shop down here? :bigblink:

I'm not trying to stir the pot as I know talking about tunes can get people a little firey but have limited options being based in Australia and would really love some feedback.

Let me know your thoughts!

Personally from having a Stage 1 remap on my other C6 RS, the difference was night and day when getting the current one done by MRC....

The torque, driveability everything is just so much better, problem with the Revo map is you dont get the gearbox map with it, so youll be down on torque, around 800nm i believe it is.

And its more like 650bhp, i mean its a nice little boost and you can feel the difference but i wouldnt expect to feel a wave of power and excitement by having it done.
Not trying to be negative, if its a good price its worthwhile it'll improve the car but it is not comparable to a MRC tune, and i really dont like pushing people to the obvious choice but MRC really have got it nailed regarding Audi tuning.

I'm sure if you ask them they will fly out and map your car, might be an extra expense with flights etc, but if you plan on keeping her it'll be worth while, and i can only assume it'll be one of maybe a handful tuned in your location so would certainly help on resale.

As a rough guess based on UK cost for flights to Brisbane (£2000-4500) & hotel for a week (£1000) etc call it £6000 to send Doug out.

Now he can map two cars a day so there's the potential for 10 cars in a week meaning if you find 9 other Audi drivers who would like an MRC map then the potential £6k bill to fly him out drops to £600 each added onto of the cost of a map (£1000) so call it between £1500 (Aus $2500) and £2000 (Aus $3300) per car with lots of room for my maths errors and reducing the costs (cheaper hotel/flights booked in Feb etc drops it to £2k instead of £6k!)

Or go with Revo :D

Yes it'll not be as good as a MRC map but it is the easiest option by far.

If MRC was arranged to visit the East Coast of Australia I'd be a 100% definite also....

Unfortunately I'd struggle to find 10+ individuals to get there Audi's tuned by MRC.

If I was in Europe no problems but I'm in Australia and as Ian pointed out it not a cheap option

I also don't have the time to organise such a thing and that wouldn't be a fun conversation with the wife it'll probably make the news....
Wife "Hey babe, are you booking flights for our holiday?"
Me "Holiday? Pfft, I'm actually booking flights for Doug at MRC to fly in from the UK to come tune my car. What do you think?"
Wife "I think you want to die. Yes?"
Me "Eventually everyone dies you know so I don't want to trouble you?"

Might stick to a Revo tune at this stage and wait for another willing enthusiast to ship Doug out. Hey ALO500

Get in touch with them and see if they can team up with someone local with a dyno and the right software they can do it over the web

They've already said they won't do that unfortunately, it's either Doug/Mihnea physically sat in your car (or in their new UAE/Dubai workshop) or no map.

If you've any common sense, once you've got married you learn very quickly that phrases like "please yourself" and "do whatever you want" do NOT mean what you think they mean.
Actually, if you have got some common sense you don't get married in the first place.

:biggrin3:

Well I got the Revo tune and it's night and day for me, pulls strong and gave my brother a fright in his new s3 however, I've had a error code pop up the other day.
It was a very warm day around 38 degrees celsius here. Didn't push the car (mid throttle, 3rd gear) but the car threw a CEL and I'm sure it put it in limp mode.

Fault code was P2261- 008 or 008801 n249 "mechanical fault"
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 261/008801

From what I've read on other similar issues with VAG models this error code could very likely be caused from a faulty or leaky DV (diverter valve)
If it was a faulty n249 the majority of people say the fault code would read as a "intermittent" or as an "electrical fault".

From what I can see the DV (if I'm correct) sit under the airboxes and both look like they have never been replaced. I know from previous VAG's that the factory DV's suffered from holding extra boost and leaked after a tune/flash and that VAG did do a revision and came out with a stronger diaphragm DV - 710n

So I was wondering if anyone has had a similar scenario and did you stick to the VAG part. If so do you recall the part number?
Or did you opt aftermarket like a Forge 007 or 008 DV with a stronger spring?

So I got a mate to check on Elsawin/ETKA and it looks like there isn't a part number for our DV's, not to sure why but it looks like the are built into the airbox assembly?
See diagram below
Image
So I guess my question is has anyone changed their diverter valves?

I have GFB Valves - self-regulated (no need for different springs)

are they custom fabricated onto the airbag or just a simple change ? and i take it the gfb work similar in principle to the 2.0 task units
