Start/Stop Button

Can someone clear something up for me please? I've seen some keyless go models with a round silver start button and some with a square black button, similar to the stop button. Is one a signal of an older model and if so which one?
Thanks.

The round is for facelift (3G) cars. However it's an easy retrofit if you have the older style

You can also retro fit the facelift handbrake switch

Thank you mate. That's the one I have, so difference being slightly shorter and has a silver tip from the non-facelift model

I bought the updated RS shifter but screwed up whilst trying to install it, unfortunately the springs inside the gear came out and as a result wasn't able to get them in due to the tiny opening of the button, just not going to buy another one for the time being.

Ouch, there's a great shifter "How To" somewhere which might be able to help refit everything as it covers the adjusting the springs inside the new shifter but I can remember where it is (probably in this forum somewhere

)

Just to add that although the round 'start' button does indicate a later model, it doesn't automatically mean the car has 3G MMI - for that you need to look carefully at the MMI click wheel to see if there's a small joystick on top rather than a flat black MMI button.
This is 3G (not a C6):

For retrofit options go to Hazzydayz near St Albans Herts. Great service.

Thanks gents, great response.
There doesn't seem to be many C6's with 3G MMI, I don't think I've seen one in the last few months up for sale. Also, there doesn't seem to be many later model C6's coming up for sale, they're all 2008 and 2009. What year did that generation go on till?
The later shifter does look more modern.

For a guaranteed 3G look at the saloons which came out in 2009. Most of the Avants advertised will be 2G even if on a 2009 plate, this was due to dealers trying to shift unsold stock-releasing a £70k + car at the start of one of the worst recessions wasn't conducive to good sales! Hence the C6 RS6 ceased production in May 2010. There are some 3G Avants out there (the RS6 Plus for example) but these will command a premium.
