Whats on your job list?

Post by TomRS » Tue Sep 20, 2016 12:48 pm

Just curious what's on everyones job lists....

Mine is as follows

DRC Fail - Possibly just a rubbed through pipe on the rear end (still to investigate)
EXT temp sensor - I replaced this but its not clipped in properly so i need to remove the bumper
Drivers seat - Needs the bolster repairing as its looking scuffy
Chrome trim - Needs wrapping in black as i have the horrid water staining marks
Grille - Needs a repaint after a couple of track sessions
Front Bumper - Needs a repaint also as its looking quite rough
Rear Drivers quater - Has a chunk of paint missing from a stone flick which needs addressing before it gets any worse
Rear bumper - Again needs a respray as it has stone rash near the wheels
Undertray - Needs replacing as i had to cut half of it off after it fell off
Inner Arches - These need replacing also as when the undertray fell off it pushed the arches into the tires and has rubbed through some of the plastic
Water leak - the three way valve going to the aux radiator is leaking a tiny amount from one of the "clamps" on the rubber hose
Sump plug - Need to replace this as it leaks after the cars been sat a while, a few drips adds up over a week period i orginally thought it was the oil pump seals but luckily it was just the sump plug.

Thats about it really, everything else is working fine, no fault codes or errors to report.. i serviced it recently when i had to replace the bottom Aux radiator as the rubber posts holding this in place fractured off and the radiator itself fell off which in turn led to the undertray falling off... it was a bit messy, i removed all the oil cooler lines and pipe work (not the oil cooler itself) and drained those as well as the 5th sump plug to drain the timing case, managed to get a fair amount of oil out.
Fuel filter and plugs were done less than 3k ago so those are good for now!

Looking forward to seeing peoples lists seems how these cars are knocking on upto 8yrs old.

Exterior:
Tailgate lights - need replacing
Front bumper and driver's wing - Paint correction following two (yep - two) very light gatepost interfaces last week.
Front splitter - Removing, minor repair then paint or possibly wrapping to tidy scuffs caused in one of the above gatepost interfaces.
Driver's rear wing - wheel arch could do with minor paint correction
Windscreen - Tiny star crack just above driver's wiper when parked
Front bumper - correct alignment and panel gaps, grill looks to be a few mm too far to the left to me (picky).
Underbody shields - one or more are in need of replacement

Under Bonnet:
Investigate oil stain towards rear right side of engine - possible weep from timing chain cover.

Interior:
General - clean it you lazy sod
Central console coin tray - investigate and correct cause of cover not retracting, possible foreign object
Central console cup holder - cosmetic repairs to chips in the edge of the cover
Driver's seat bolster - usual problem
Driver's B pillar lower trim - looking tatty

And experiment with wheel colours before deciding which I'm going for...

Ah, long story. Basically, being nice to my daughter. As a graduation present (she got a first) I replaced her less than reliable Seicento with an immaculate, seriously low miles, one retired owner 57 plate Yaris. We've got a wide drive (not wide enough as it turns out) but no gates so one car on the drive, the other in at an angle. After dark couple of weeks back she managed to clip one of the brick gate posts (scratched rear wheel arch, but just to the primer) so I suggested that with 40 years of driving experience it'd be better if I was to reverse the RS in angled and she park on the drive.
Yes, sounds like a plan - dickhead. Then I brushed a post with the bumper on the way out one morning (didn't notice until I got to work - that's how light it was). The next night I arrived home late, somewhat tired and was concentrating more on not reversing into my WR than I was on the same bloody gatepost.
Still, got of lightly with both cars, other than the scuff on the splitter the damage is nothing that a bit of paint and some work won't sort.
More annoying is that the RS is the first car I've valued which I've scratched in the afore-mentioned 40 years driving and I did it twice in two days - despite the park assist 'n stuff.

Still, they say things happen in threes don't they.

And getting real picky now:
Back bumper - one of the parking sensors is a couple of mm deeper into the bumper than the others.
Some gravel rash or something on the sill cover finishers at the bottom of the front wings and the leading edge of both rear wheel arches. Only noticeable from certain angles, looks like I've driven along a dusty track.

After 105k miles and currently being used for 20k miles a year (last 10k at 900+) there's a few jobs that I'm getting done over the next 6 months.

Mechanical -

Fix "Creaky" NSF Upper arms (MeyleHD currently).
Replace all DRC struts and hoses - tired struts (maybe not essential to replace TBF but after 105k miles I'm doing it anyway) & corroded hoses.
Screenwash level sensor borked (probably age but maybe the meth mix?).
Random Brake Pad Low warning - breakdown in wiring between bulkhead and strut.
Random J197 (level control) messages in VCDS so probably one of the sensors starting to give funny readings.

Interior -

Driver's seat bolster/thigh pad worn (fat bloke).
NSR seat has had dye transfer from my spare tyre (no idea how) so probably needs re-dying as nothing has removed it so far.
Water/Meth gauge needs moving from glove box to more visable location.

Exterior -

Full paint correction and scratch removal (narrow countryside roads filled with scratchy hedgerows and moron Kent drivers)
Rear inner light covers crazed/scratched - Replace all with FL lights
Upper Brake light missing 3 LED's - Replace
NSR arch has a bit of rush at the top.

I forgot - York Audi pointed out that mine was missing 2 LEDs. That's another job.

Nice list of jobs Jim....

Shame to hear about the Gate post story, although being honest i did have a bit of a laugh about it! its always the same mate, soon as you cherish and care for something thats the one thing that gets damaged or breaks down because you suddenly care.

Ian - Your list is relatively small, i feel i've got a lemon in comparison, did you manage to get that diff rebuilt and sorted out?
