Gear selection in D

Post by longman h » Wed Jul 13, 2016 11:13 am

Can someone just confirm that the following characteristic is the same with everyone's car please.

When in D, driving through town slowly, the car seems to shift up through the gears fairly early which is fine but when reducing speed and in third gear, it holds this gear until you come to an almost complete stop and if you then try to accelerate away, it stays in third and doesn't lock up the torque converter (assuming it doesn't want to put too much strain on the box) which gives you the sense of an almost slipping clutch.

Now as we all know, torque converters are designed to do this due to the way their designed but I thought I'd get some feedback from you guys.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Hi there

Mine goes down the gears, but doesn't go into 1st until I've actually stopped.

In town, mine seems to hold lower gears for longer when cold, otherwise changes up at the speed points, 25 35 45 55.

I'm not sure how "intelligent" the software to learn how you drive the car is.

Ok that's good that I'm not the only one.
Have either of you had a gearbox remap or anything?

Has anyone tried resetting the adaptations?

I reckon the gearbox map would resolve my issues as the car's currently running a Superchips remap, Supersprint secondary decat pipes and BMC filter so pretty much stage 2.

The thing is, if I take it to MRC I'll want them to overwrite the Superchips map with theirs and flash the gearbox which will remove 1500 of my hard earned notes from my bank.... Image

Speaking from owning a car mapped by another company... all im going to say is night and day, you might think its quick now, but honestly MRC will open your eyes to how bad your "superchips" map is.
it'll make a genuine 730-750ps and over 1000nm of torque... the £1500 is a well worthy investment that will have you smiling for many many months after, it also adds second hand value on a tuned car due to them being so renown.

As for the gearbox thing, resetting adaptions changes nothing its set that way to allow for a smooth setup rather than changing gear too often, in practice it makes sense but it just makes me cringe every time it happens as i feel like im "slipping" clutches even though i know its not.

That's exactly how I feel.

Have you got the gearbox map as well?

That's pretty much how I sell it to myself to be honest and I bet the MRC will be better for the car than say a Superchips map.

Don't worry about it....I spunked £1200 on an engine and gearbox map on the recommendation of 2 forum members here...

Turned out after visiting MRC, the gearbox had never been touched, and the engine was quote "the worst MRC had ever seen"....

If you can believe such things mine is now supposed to be 770ps 1100Nm

What I do know is my car now does 0-60 2.9s 0-100 6.3s and 203mph gps and still pulling slightly.

Longman,

Yes i have the gearbox map too, that increased the torque allowance... a normal engine map alone doesnt really do much.

And as for 770PS that is literally outrageous!

I need to revist MRC when i get my 3" downpipes on, fresh oil/filter & new plugs jeez i'd be happy if i made that figure with downpipes let alone in stock form!

Well done!

I have sports air filters, Demand Engineering 3" downpipes and exhaust, full decat, MRC engine and gearbox map

Doug at MRC was hoping nearer 800ps but i think he was impressed with the torque figure.

Was done last September and the car is hilarious....

Cheers guys, get it done ;)

2.9sec 0-60 mph??? With 770hp / 1100Nm?? That seems too quick

Do u have times like 100-200 kph?
