It may well be... I may well also still be hanging around on here...
Farravi wrote:I had the rust on the coolant pipes on the driver side too, luckily the car was at the garage and the engine out job which had just gone back in so luckily caught it just in time.

The coolant pipe if memory serves me right was around £230 including sundries so not reasonably priced for some rubber/plastic and metal, tbh I have yet to find a part on that car that doesn't require short of a re-mortgage, not to forget the labour.
Yer but it is still a cool car, I still haven't got over Audi telling me it was £1,600 for a full service! I went to Mrc...

Tom, have you seen anything of your original rs6? Wonder what's happened to that one.

So I've been in comms with 'strawman' who is selling his lovely sepang blue Avant in the classifieds re the coolant pipes. Turns out the pipes are NOT covered under Audi Warranty (but the oil leak is). He had his fixed by Audi and they failed to spot the pipes needed fixing until the engine was out and picked up the labour in good faith. One ray of sunshine was the fact that they 'should' be able to fix the pipes without removing the engine. The car is into Audi next week so will have a chat with them then and if it's a crazy price I'll take it to MRC as invariably they should be cheaper than Audi. Will also have a close look at the warranty as its up for renewal next month and need to weigh up the cost. One bonus should be that once the pipes are sorted then it shouldn't be an issue again. Will be holding my breath when they give me the quote!

Ok so to wrap up this subject-the RS went into Audi yesterday for the coolant pipe issue. Audi reports back that its surface corrosion and so it's not a negative issue at this time. They also confirmed what others have said that extended comprehensive Audi warranty does NOT cover corrosion. So that's a self funding job if it rears its ugly head and I don't fancy paying Audi labour rates when a specialist such as MRC can do the same (if not better) at a cheaper rate.
Everything else checked out and whilst she's in there it was time for an oil service and brake fluid change. £385.00 for the oil and £59.00 for the brake fluid in case anyone is wondering.
Looks like I dodged the coolant pipe issue although am sure at some stage in the future surface corrosion will become deep corrosion.
I'm now seriously going to have a think about the extended warranty. I'm going to put this on a separate thread on here and the general section as then I can get a better idea of whether to renew or find a suitable alternative.
As a replacement car while the RS was in they have given me a new Q7.... I'm not a fan of them to be honest and Q7 drivers can be a bunch of tools I've noticed. Anyhow-apart from the fact that they have totally screwed up the design (Audi is on point with their design and I love the look of most of the new ones especially the C7 shape-the Q7 just looks like it's made of Lego!), the current tech has been really impressing me especially the dash nav:

Very Gucci and shows how far technology has advanced since the C6.
But it's still a wallowing pudding of a car though.....looking forward to getting the RS back.

Got the car back from Audi today and one thing the techs said about the corroded lines was that they weren't sure that they were in fact coolant lines and may be air conditioning pipes? That was from the tech that's their resident RS specialist. Any ideas? Photo at the beginning of this thread. Baffled.com here.....

Just ask them.... "Do I need to take the engine out to replace them?"

Who cares what the line is, when it bursts, what does it cost!

I'll update this since it was mine that was done recently.
They were called 'Heater Matrix' pipes on the parts list that I saw and were about £400 for parts.
They swapped them without removing the engine. They had quoted approx £1k to replace but agreed to pick up the labour as it hadn't been spotted when the engine was out having a lambda sensor replaced so fair play to them.

Interesting-I wonder if the ones in the pic I took to kick this thread off are the same ones? If so then £1k is better than £2k let's face it...

It's the two lines that run together at the top rear of the OSF wheel arch. I guess they pick up all the road muck and it seems crazy that they're not protected in any way.
The tech said it was tight, as they run round the back of the engine, and they weren't sure if they could do it with the engine in but maybe their offer to pay the labour focused them a little.

Funny you say that just wiped a little of my lines with a bit of kitchen roll and they were covered in some oily grease ...bear in mind my pipes have been replaced. What's strange is that a wee sleaved wire has nothing on it in terms of the oily residue pic below

Nice pipes Image mine look nothing like that...wondering if I should just coat them in grease and hope for the best of would that just be pointless? Audi gave them a clean bill of health and looking back at my photo it looks like a past of the pipes is corroded the rest is the metal clamp.
