Front axle suspension
Front axle suspension
My car has developed a clunky noise recently which is irritating but equally worryingly loud so I decided to take it to the indie. From initial examination it seems the bearings on the top arms looks battered on the driver side and very likely to be the cause. I contacted TPS and they quoted me £650 odd pounds for both the arms and for both the left hand and drivers side seeing they weren't looking good either. I researched and found Meyle HD do a full set for the front axle (both left and right) and has 12 pieces in total in the Front suspension kit and came to £408 complete with bushes and nuts and bolts.
I want to save myself from going through the pain in the future so best to replace with new ones for the whole front axle whilst the tyres are coming off and it's cheaper than TPS option, no brainer.
1160500095/HD which are high density versions and come with 4yr warranty.
If anyone is interested let me know and I'll pass on the details if it cannot be found via web search.

Does the £408 kit include shrubbery as well?Farravi wrote:£408 complete with bushes and nuts and bolts.
(Sorry I have nothing to add.)

Hi There,
I am getting my suspension swapped out for a full KWv3 Coilover today due to leaking shock and clattering noise. I would be grateful for the contact incase I need to order these as an emergency backup when its stripped down.
Was it next day shipping?
Thanks in advance Lee

Bushing or bushes are the synthetic rubber isolators interfacing between the two metal bits/arms to dampen the vibration which transfers into noise that you would otherwise hear when the metal objects would make when there is movement between them.Ungjaevel wrote:Does the £408 kit include shrubbery as well?Farravi wrote:£408 complete with bushes and nuts and bolts.

Re: Front axle suspension
Cheers Farravi I know what bushings are
If "bushes" is an actual term in the UK then that was lost on me and I suppose I wasn't funny or clever at all. (I'll play my "english is not my primary language" card here...)

Re: Front axle suspension
If you're going with the KWv3. You want to look at upgraded shrubbery too (I love that description!). Proflex are what I've used in the last, but vaguely remember reading on here that they don't supply for a c6 rs6.
The only downside with poly bushes are they can squeak and they do give a more solid ride, but the feed back is excellent and if you're going for kwv3 you're going to get proper corner grip, no point in doing this without the correct supporting setup.

@Shinobi675 I don't they do a Proflex Bushing kit for the C6, but I may be wrong.

Re: Front axle suspension
I don't think either
but there are definitely equivalents available. There was a thread about 12-18 months ago on it.

Farravi thanks for the info.
Shinobi675, your right re the shrubbery when doing the upgrade but im still recovering commercially from a full AP brake / DS pad transplant
. My fate will unfold over the next 24 hrs im sure.
In the medium term Ill get these done anyway as your statement is correct and is sound advice........lets see.

Re: Front axle suspension
As soon as I bought the car I took it to the ring and after about a dozen laps the brake warning came on... Turns out the bloody thing needed new disks and pads all round!
I juggled in my head for an age on so racing vs standard and ended up going replace all round with standard. It's not a track car I found out at the ring.
But... Wish I'd thrown a few hundred more at it for the ap racing setup! It was a mistake, I should have just bitten the billet!
Next time....

Re: Front axle suspension
Yeah I went stage 2 + on my stock brake set up (that were on their way out to be fair) and destroyed them in no time....This was just road use as well.
My only observation is that I miss the initial bite from the stock pads compared to the DS2500's as im only travelling 15mins each way to work so they never get much heat in them.............The discs haven't even marked yet so deffo an upgrade.

Gents it won't be near as bad as my 'mics will need replacing, apparently priced at 4k, not sure what that includes but it's a big 'gulp' when it does happen.

Re: Front axle suspension
What's the initial bite like? The standards annoy me as they grip big time on initial touch. There's no progress on the first touch.

Re: Front axle suspension
I recon u have a 1/3 rd of peddle travel before it really bites. Again I need to give it a good thrashing to see if it improves significantly (which im sure it will) but when just pottering along its borderline unnerving. Im going to ask the garage to bleed my brakes while its in just in case...
