RS6 Brakes - Pagid Source

Post by RS6-T28RPH » Thu Aug 20, 2015 6:10 am

Hi Guys,

Having had to replace my front discs and pads the other week, turns out that EuroCarParts are a Pagid stockist and since this is what Audi use on the front end Euro get that parts that are exactly the same however just dont have the Audi stamp on them.

Front Disc - 390 x 36mm @ £190 + VAT each
Front Pad Set - £92 + VAT each (although trade customers can get these for £60+VAT)

All bought, fitted within an hours, works an absolute treat!

Would also recommend this pad bedding process - http://www.bgdevelopments.co.uk/technic ... g-in/pagid

Keeps the costs down if you driving style chews through brake material and tyres ;-)

Are the discs the same spec as Audi OEM,i.e. drilled etc?

Exactly the same, will get the part numbers off my discs, they even have the grub screw hole which is what differs from the lambo gallardo discs.

I didn't think they were the same guys? The disks are brembo but they're not the exact same. I think it's like the tyre game, specifics per manufacturer but with a generic version too.

So have just confirmed with Euro Car Parts part numbers and general costings, if you have a local garage that you are on good terms with they will be able to get better pricing than this!

I have previously sourced discs from Germany, based on Audi part number 4F0 615 301 L from this ebay listing (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111624513214? ... EBIDX%3AIT) and they are identical to the OEM part just without AUDI stamped into the disc, everything else is there like min thickness etc.

Pagid drilled disc
390mmx36.6mm
£298 + VAT (have been quoted £190 + VAT at garage trade)
ECP Part Number 104441950

ATE Teves Pads
Set for front axel to suit 6 pot brembo
£119 + VAT (have paid £70 + VAT previously)
ECP Part Number 101441785

I would be nervous about the quality of the steele they used, if it was a lower grade the uniformity of the stopping power could be affected, not to mention a bit of unsightly rust.

With a car of this type (given those discs are the only thing between you and hospital), is it worth taking the risk?

All i know is that the discs are identical apart from the Audi stamping round the centre, they still came with the galvanised coating so i think it is safe to say that they are the same product, but they have left the production line before it has been stamped with Audi's name on it.

From the digging about i did i could only find pagid as the oem manufacutrer of the discs. Otherwise you are looking at AP Racing discs? I even spoke to the tech team at EBC when looking for pads (was after some yellow suff pads) and they said they just dont make them.

From the OEM discs and pads that were on there before, and now having these, I can tell no difference at all, you can still brake hard enough to make your face feel like its falling off :-)

I ended up replacing the fronts with Tarox 400mm discs and the rears with AP racing discs, running DS2500 pads... If i'd known about the PAGID source discs i'd probably have given them a go.
Do me a favour, do a few 100mph to 0 stops and see if you get face after 1 stop?

Thats always a good test (obviously do this only if your pads/discs are bedded in) and allow a good cool off perioud once finished.

Hi Tom,

Just dropped the kid off at school and have a nice little run back over a couple of miles of nice open road, was up against a van but managed 3x 100mph to 40mph and still had good bite to the point where it felt like me head was going to come off. At the 4th run closer to town the pedal feel started to change, still with braking power but had to press a little deeper, to be honest, it needs the brake fluid changing, have got a couple of weeks of maintenance ahead so control arms, full fluid change including transmission at a specialist friend of mine (http://belvoirtransmissions.com).

For pad bedding in back from when I used to do telemetry on britcar, we always followed BG developments guidelines, i beleive they also take an AP racing blank and will machine a disc to suit a car, proper old school but they know their stuff! http://www.bgdevelopments.co.uk/technic ... g-in/pagid

Picture below of the disc after the runs this morning, plenty of pad material transferred :-)

I don't think that there is any difference between these parts and OEM, although with the price being so low its a bonus as I use the car as a daily driver so chomp through brake material and tyres quite frequently so don't mind so much chucking on new discs and pads at frequent intervals.

Thank you so very much for the response, i am very happy that this is equivilant to OEM performace, it sounds to me like it is, i did a few tests with my old setup before moving over to my new tarox's.
I only swapped to the tarox's because i found them cheap and a new set of oem Audi dics and pads was £600 cheaper so i thought it was a no brainer i know £600 is a lot but i wanted uprated performance.
I also wish i'd know this before i purchased my AP racing rear discs (bought from BG developments i know Alex well he's done a lot for me in the past) so they werent retail price but still a hell of a lot more than you paid for your rears!
I just couldnt justify £699 for rear Audi discs when AP's were the same price.

I mean its done and paid for now but its nice to know you've found some good deals out there, i commend your efforts.
I also use my RS6 daily i've put 12k miles on it since i bought it in march.

Tyres are what kills me, brakes are now sorted but i'd have prefered to just pay for cheap OEM discs and pads instead of the expensive setup i have now.
Tarox pads are £160 a set to fit the 16's which is ok but discs come in at £1018.
I'll be back in touch with BG when that issue comes around, i dont rate the tarox discs as well as the AP's.
My HP fuel pump has also just packed in so a replacment from TPS including follower for £198.

I do all my own maintenace, changed the plugs/filters/brakes/fluids all myself.

I am using Motul 5.1 fluid which i find is great! was going to run RBF600 but due to its nature you have to change it every 6/12 months being a race fluid.
So thought i'd just stick with normal 5.1
I've done some track and heavy braking and have yet to have fade from the fluid/tarox pads/ds2500 rears... good setup. I also dont reccomend Yellow stuff pads, had a set in the rear and they lasted 3 weeks.
the 2500's are doing much much better just a little dusty!

The dust is inevitable i think, part of the fun making anthracite grey wheels :-)

Have a look on black circles, Bridgestone Potenzas R001 Audi fitting pop up on offer every now and again for £149 + VAT each, currently at £160 + VAT each. I have a set of 4 waiting in the garage ready to go on, the previous owner had falkens which are a bit on the noisy side, but in ESP sportmode they let the backend step out nicely ;-)

Had mine from about April, only done 4000 miles in it, just went past 115000 this morning, got an oil from somewhere in the V of the engine so need to get that sorted but otherwise everything is spot on, bit of a restorative project really, desperately need the wheels refurbishing and bumper scuffs and scrapes respraying but dont plan on parting with the car so just taking my time.

Cheers,
Rich

Just to say - ECP are stocking the pagid disks and pads again. They do have limited stock nationwide but as usual, are happy to order into store for next day pick up / delivery.

Just had the rear's done on mine.

The car also seem to be drinking power steering fluid at the moment.

That'll be the common fault that is the power steering rack i'd guess at... engine removal to fix.

Last time I bought some OEM pads from Audi they were Brembo, not Pagid. I am pretty sure that the ECP Pagid pads are not the same spec as OEM.
