Chafed pipe from Airbox.

Hi all, after selling my C5 last year I'm looking at C6's now and popped around to a local trader who had one in stock. When I opened the bonnet the very first thing I saw was a pipe from the R/H airbox had been hacked apart with a knife by someone

The dealer was as shocked as me when I pointed it out!
Does anyone know what this pipe feeds? (pic below)?
The car looked fine otherwise and was up for a good price but this, along with a few other engine niggles (low oil, low coolant etc) is making me think again.

Hi
I wouldn't be totally put off by this. I think some dealers are just lazy and don't check the most basic items ie low oil and coolant if it were you or I selling privately we would check all these items. As for the air box issue I had a similar problem and just put it down to an idiot grease monkey as there is so little space to work in these beasts people use items such as knives to prise open air boxes.
As a previous C5 owner like you the difference is massive you won't regret it when you find the right car.

Think its a breather pipe that feeds the blow off valve underneath the airbox.

Thanks for the help fellas! However after a having a look through the service history it did 30k miles without a service (50-80k), only had a 10k done at 80k which has just run out so it'll need a 20K service with spark plugs (90k and not done) and new brakes all-round so £3500 (Audi price) on top of the asking price so I'm walking away from that one!

Ian, was it a Monza silver example? Reg ML48 J**?
Good to see you return BTW.

Hi Marc, no it was a mapped daytona avant @ 91K miles, reg was something like N*08*** (amazing memory I know!) and the Trader said it was an ex-company directors car (some medical company).

Nope I walked away, too many things setting off my highly tuned "C5 Wallet" senses about it
Seeing another Daytona Avant on Friday so hopefully that's better. It's a bit more than I wanted to spend but it's got a lot of the right ticks for me so far, lets see how it holds up on closer inspection.

theres a nice mugello blue avant with 'ramics on pistonheads atm. 70 odd k, and high 20's if I wanted another one that would be the one I would go and look at.

You know you want another, you'll never be happy till you have 700+bhp back under your right foot again!

hehe you know me too well!
they are such good value for money!
sadly I still haven't built my garage yet so nowhere to store it without it getting in the way. plus the cayenne handles much better!
however if classba was to sell then maybe, just maybe

What has surprised me most, is that Bam has not been along yet, considering the thread title !
