New battery coding

The battery has finally died so just bought a new one from Audi.
Does it need coding and if yes, what are the procedures with Vag Vom?.

I hope they don't, I swapped mine out a few months ago with no issues at all. I maintained constant current with my CTEK charger connected and have had no problems since.

Just checked Elsawin and depending if you have the monitoring system then coding will be needed under 19 Canbus coding in the new battery part number and serial number. You also need to re activate the automatic closing of windows and re activate the keys ( including the spares ).
I have
Vag Com so will check this tomorrow.

Interesting as I have TPMS (we all do) and advanced keys and all work OK since the swap, that said my TMPS has always been a bit temperamental.

Could you remember if your negative terminal had a small module on it with a connection?. If you do then that's the monitoring system which controls the slave unit etc. I'll let you know tomorrow after I fit mine.

There was something on one of the connectors, hmmm, I'll get MRC to check I did it right when it's there in a couple of weeks time.

What monitoring is that? I had a new battery a few months back no coding however the Cobra alarm I was unaware of decided to immobilise the car which required a ride on an RAC truck

I'm not 100% sure but its something to do with shutting off some active usages if the car has stood still for days/weeks to maintain the battery voltage enough for it to start.

Yes it needs coding.
Use the BEM code which comes with the battery if OEM.
Or just renter the same code but change the serial number by one digit.
Early cars had batt regulator module, later ones this is done in the CAN module

Thanks Golf... you are correct..it does need coding which is now done.
The MMI continued to display the old battery strength reading of 10% after it was installed and once coded, it displayed 100%.

That will teach me to do DIY, at least I'm at MRC next week for a bunch of work so I'll add this to the ever lengthening list!

Ive asked Doug yesterday and he said no coding is needed which is incorrect. Do you have a VAG COM?....it's simple to code.
Regardless, you will need to undo the battery cover and take some photos of the battery part number, brand and serial number for coding.

I don't have a
Vag Com but I'm sure if I ask them to do it they will. I have noticed sometimes that the car seems to think the battery is more flat than it actually is. Stuff like the boot won't open or shut without the engine running sometimes if the car has been powered up for a short time (i.e. ignition on, engine not running).

Yes... just code it then you be fine.
If you're down my neck of the woods, I'll code it for you if that helps.
