MY front brakes are due to replacement shortly and wondered what relatively std options were open to me?

I recall with the C5, you could fit C5+ discs....

Thoughts?

Brakes on C6 are the same, except for 'ramics.

you could also fit c6 discs
as said ceramics are a very expensive option

I just saw a complete set of ceramics go on FleaBay for 5500........... used set...... CRAZY.

TRUE, they are very expensive..... but they're worth every penny.

Sure, but for my shopping cart my steel brakes seem to suffice.

If I wanna go fast I have a few italian exotics which does not weigh in the region of a loaded supertanker

OK... then you don't need a RS6 as your SHOPPING CART.

If we only had what we need here in life, it would not be much. Would it?

Personally I find the ceramic on my C6 its best feature and I'd hate to not have them. I've had a few very spirited late night drives of late where they took an absolute punishing that any steel brake I've ever had would have faded away to nothing after 5 minutes of punishment but the ceramics stayed very very sharp and showed no signs of fade. If you find the RS6 to be a big loaded supertanker I'd have to say you're not driving it right. Yes it's big and weighty but I had no problem using it to it's max round the bends constantly left foot breaking and sometimes two foot breaking and the 6 and it's ceramics acquitted itself very well indeed. Yes it's not a supercar but it can get from A to B down a B or A road really really quickly!

Indeed, that is the reason I drive have the RS6 Avant. Its probably the best Stationwagon out there. Comfortable. Secure. Spacious. Very fast to be a station wagon. I use it to go shopping mostly, as my daily drive is the 360, a very light and agile car. I also drive quite spirited at times, but I have never had any issues with brake fade. Brake late, and hard, then off the brakes. Turn in. Mine has the MTM 730 tune.

Having said that, the front CarbonCeramic brakes looks nothing short of impressive on the RS6 and the forum / pub bragging rights are immense.

On tracked Porsches most remove the CCB and put on steel brakes.

My Gallardo and 430 have CCB. They both squeel a bit. Love the apparent lack of brakedust

This. The steels are huge and as of yet I've not had a single issue with them. In fact I think the tyres have been skipping a little more than I would like on occasion under heavy braking, but that is no fault of the steels. I often go for a late night blast and last night went out in the RS6 on the A350; fairly hilly, unlit, tight B road (don't say it), high verges etc, etc. Interspersed with the odd 30mph village. I was pushing the car very hard and apart from my wheels looking black this morning I have had no problems. Constant and steady braking.(***I would add that the entire brake system was replaced when I bought the car so they are still under 2500miles).

I haven't used the Ceramics on the '6 but on others I find that the ceramics make left foot braking very difficult as the power is a lot more on/off rather than the progression that steels provide (hence the track reverters).

I have to say if you haven't found the steels an issue with that MTM tune that is very impressive.

Bragging rights, though, are insane. The number of people who comment on the size of my steels on the '6; I always tell them just how large the ceramics are!

I can't say I have tried one with the steels so I guess I've got no opinion. My S4 brakes were tragic and faded after about 5 good hard applications and going back to my old Skyline days I tried so many setups of standard and big brake aftermarket conversions and never found one that really worked on the track or even the road. I never got to the end of a lap of the ring without struggling to stop and the end of the straight.

It sounds like steels have taken a big stride forward so I just need to get with the times I guess. I would say the carbons would be good bragging rights but I can't say my RS6 has ever provoked any interest of even a glance from anyone (which I do like about it).

An old friend of mine who was a very successful racing driver used to always drive fast Audi's from the S2 right through to the RS6 and always used to moan about Audi brakes and instant fade, an effect I experienced one night when we decided to go for a blast round the Rockingham indie track.

I bow to the experience of all the others on the thread with experience of far more ownership of exotica than I've ever had!

It was the late night rapid rags back from Malmesbury to Poole via the A350 and Higher Shaftsbury Road that prompted my move to ceramics. The brakes faded quickly along that road, and lead to more than one close encounter with a hedge. Post ceramics, they were rock solid... Mine was MRC Stange 2, and I was pressing on...

Driving style. Brake hard. Off the brakes. Turn in.

No fiddling.

Whilst i don't think many of can argue against the merits of Ceramics. few of us can warrant £6k to get them. In reality, how many times are they used over and above what one would do in steel brakes....?

For sure, I would choose a car with them over a car without them but is the extra cost really worth it for normal driving..?
