Long life oil service

Post by classba » Mon Dec 09, 2013 2:25 pm

My car is due for a long life oil service and my local Audi has quoted me 550 for just changing the oil, oil filter, sump plug and O rings... nothing else and they won't allow me to supply my own oil even though it's the same being Quantum Long Life-3. WTF IMO.

Now, I don't do much miles maybe just 3k per year so I want to get out of the long life and change the oil yearly but I don't know which is best... Castrol or Mobil-1 both being 5W-30?. Which would you guys use?

Thanks in advance.

There is no long life servicing on the RS6.
Its either 10k or 12 months fixed interval.

Oil service from a stealer is around £80-100 if u supply ur own oil and filters.
You can get Castrol 5w30 cheap from ECP and you need 2x4litre bottles.

Should cost u less than £200 all in.

Strange, one of my service marked long life and last service was done in Dec 2011. Besides, my local stealer wont allow me to supply my own oil etc.

Ok, this is well Fcuked up.... called another local Stealer for a oil service and they have quoted me 159 all in and they will get back to me on the price if I supplied my own oil.

Now I know why they are called STEALERS.

You sure? My first service was definitely at 2 years, and I can recall the time/mileage counter being in line with this.

Mine the same too but I'm going back to yearly oil service because I do little miles and much rather use a better quality oil than the quantum Long Life-3 oil.

Longlife servicing is a dumb idea, on any car.
Even moreso on a RS6 pushing 580 ponies!

Mines always been set to 10k from factory, stealers i use also recommend this.

Evenso, if you had it on 2yrs or 20k miles variable, it would never last the distance due to the oil quality deteriorating a lot quicker than normal cars.

Classba, I was recently put in touch with a master tech that works for Audi in London, owns an RS 6 himself, really knows his stuff... Could put you in touch. If my car ever needs any major work with Audi, it will go to him as we've been talking and he knows his stuff, not like my local Audi dealer, who managed to mess up when replacing my wheel bearing. Gits.
Also, going by his Linkedin - it also looks like he worked for Audi HQ in Germany...

Longlife servicing model IS available on the RS6.

£550 to carry out the oil change is a joke though. I paid about £220 when I had mine done. It is the same oil though whether you go for fixed or Longlife servicing on the RS. My dealer uses Castrol Edge 5W30. I used the same in my S4, and the M stipulates only their 10W60 oil for the S54 engine, so I've been sticking with Castrol oils for a while now. Certainly the last guy who opened up the Z and did the valve clearances said it was the cleanest one he'd seen (now on 88k). That's good enough for me. :)

And me please!

Oil should be changed every 10/12k or annually if fewer miles done - as it gets older I will do it more often. A lot of these cars were put on longlife schedules...stooopid beyond stooopid. My other car is supposed to be on a 2yr cycle which is even more daft. Oil gets changed mid-way through track day season and then at end and then gets it's service stamp at appropriate time for warranty/resale. Cheaper by many many multiples than a new engine or re-build!

Guys...as an addendum to this thread what are OEM brake pads for the car? TRW or Pagid, or both depending on stock/build?
