Re: My 900+ spec
hahahahahaha!
Spice things up lads, i'll reel my fishing line in shall i?
Makes no odds to me everyones entitled to there opinion, i try not to be biased i've read both those articles and it confirms what i already know....
There’s one more statistic worth highlighting. Taking only the ten best runs for each car – which gives us a measure of braking performance at normal operating temperatures, or prior to the onset of brake fade – we see that the cast iron-braked car recorded an average of 89.8m compared to 90.4m for the carbon ceramic-braked car. This statistic debunks one myth – that carbon ceramic brakes are more powerful than conventional brakes. According to our data, carbon ceramic brakes do not offer any braking performance advantage at normal operating temperatures
But lets not talk about that anymore and take it over to the other thread!
However what i will say finally on Dave's post about the AP discs, i've used AP steels pretty much all my car life, i have also used BG since the dawn of time and am very good friends with the people there.
That being said my opinion is not biased and i can honestly say that for your mate to have ruined those AP discs he must have been say with his foot hard on the brake after doing heavy stops.
Also the argument over unsprung mass, the AP's are quite a lot lighter than the standard steel setup, maybe not as light as the ceramics but it does help, its also £2500 for the full front end conversion with everything new.
There is no other kit out there for that price/size that will give you as good a fade resistance on track use as these.
I pioneered the first set and Ian has followed suit, BG have had quite a lot of interest in them and once ian gets a review up with myself i think they'll take off as a good replacement for factory steels for folk who dont want to spend 7k on used ceramics.
I am still not saying steels are better, it is proven that ceramics last longer and in prolonged situations they are better at preventing fade, but thats it really, so all this argument and d!ck swinging can literally get the F**K out, little bit of banter keeps things going but when people get so defensive without knowing the facts it just annoys me.
Fact is im happy so i really honestly couldn't care a less about the ramics vs steel argument, me and ian give our knowledge to this page as best we can about things we've done.
Im here to help i have VCDS and if anyone ever needs help both of us are a PM away! its more than i can say for other members of this forum.

Re: My 900+ spec
Someone has to start somewhere Dave look at what you have done builds popping up all over the place now and you pioneered that, i started with the brakes... took me weeks and 4 wrong brackets to get it sorted but its all in the effort to make things better.classba wrote:Tom, I know you and Ian are very helpful period.

Do watch this space though because NOW Trup's car will go on the dyno soon to get even more power

Re: My 900+ spec
Hi,
I don't post much on this site, mainly because I use an iPhone most of the time and find it hard to navigate around,
Maybe my age.
Anyway ref RS6 (C7) brakes,
Stock steel brakes are insufficient for general use, if you wish to stop these cars quickly with them it's not happening!
Even with a stock power set up they are useless,
Stage 2 highlights it well.
I tried AP Racing discs, 410x36 for appx 2k,( 9k on stock brakes before the AP discs and 1k after removal) I may have had unusual issues, apparently,
No love lost but any improvement on braking was so nominal it wasn't worth the wait or hassle having them fitted and removed, but in doing so, back to stock discs confirmed that it was all a lot about nothing.
No disrespect meant but that's how it was for me.
Therefore my ceramic hunt is the only way I see to go,
Then maybe I won't be constrained to using the vehicle within its <beep> braking capabilities.

lots and lots, no time served. It’s gets funnier, from yesteryears cars to ones due in months
