Residuals
Re: Residuals
So don't buy one *that's clearly a rip-off*
Useful advice is hard to find.

Re: Residuals
To me, it doesn't sound like you're buying the RS for the right reasons.
Pretty much any car you buy is going to depreciate, just try and find the one that depreciates less and go for that.

Re: Residuals
It's a ten plus year old money pit. Great cars in their pomp, less of said examples around now.
As with any car could be worth a quid tomorrow. It's not a car to be worrying about depreciation on at ten years old!

Re: Residuals
that's what I am trying to do.
what are the right reasons to by an rs6, may i ask? don't tell me 'kudos'.
simple scenario...
Car A costs £27k and will depreciate by £7k as soon as I drive off the forecourt.
Car B cost £26k and will depreciate by £4k as soon as I drive off the forecourt.
Which would you buy, assuming everything else to be the same?
Other than rarity, the prices I am seeing do not bear out the valuations on any online tool, hence the question right at the beginning, which valuation tool is best? I am not going to spend, and I would not expect anyone to spend over the odds, so rather than take a flyer, I am doing some research to figure out which of these rare beast represents best value. Not sure why that's not a reason to consider buying an rs6. Isn't that what we all do, or do you prefer to be ripped off?
The car is going cost a fortune to run irrespective. Understand that. However, in addition to that I would rather not also lose a phenomenal amount of money if I had to sell it because whether you like it or not, someone buying the car off you in 10000 miles time when you realise it is about to bankrupt you, isn't going to share your love and the correct 'reason to buy an rs6'.

Re: Residuals
They were sold 08-10 so none are 10 plus year old

I would say (potential) money pit too
I've had mine 3 years, no major expense to date (other than mods if you want to take that into account)
Obviously relatively high running costs depending on mileage

Re: Residuals
Don0301, would you say you are the exception?

Whoops....seems ages ago I had mine!don0301 wrote:They were sold 08-10 so none are 10 plus year old
Anyway, you get the point!
Re: Residuals
Do you all think this car is a keeper, despite the ongoing costs? Do you all think that in another 10-15 years, this will be a classic and demand a ridiculous price?
I wonder at what point that reversal in price will happen? It's already started to happen with the Alfa GT 3.2. Prices for a good one seem to have started to stabilise. Haven't been able to get a lowish mileage one for less than £5-£6k, and now they are on for £7k.

Re: Residuals
It's a rarity, an oddity even, but it's not a classic in my opinion. It's not going to appreciate.
Re: Residuals
No...?
A. Don is not the exception
B. The car is not a keeper.
C. You don't get the point?

Re: Residuals
Go an buy one from the auction, that way it's worth the same tomorrow as what you paid for it today.
You clearly have no appreciation for spec, condition, history, provenance, warranty, dealership....
You keep spouting % over CAP?!? Who does that!
Given you are posting on the internet, you may have heard of auto trader ! I suggest you google price transparency ...
The £2k you try and save yourself will quickly be eaten up....

Re: Residuals
I think I paid for round figures CAP + £5k, but got CAP + £3k for mine so a dealer realising mine was actually worth making some money on as he could sell it for CAP + 4K bottom line, maybe a bit more but was in showroom condition, had a warranty and 2 more free services at Volvo Main Dealer, Also had 7k worth of options on it.
Sadly no other dealer came close and I fear the further south you go the harder it is to bargain.
If I had sold mine privately I would have no hesitation of buying a higher mileage RS6 from a forum member who had looked after it.
Aim to change cars a little as often to get the best out of them..

Thanks, Considered1.
HYFR, i will refrain from saying what I really think you are.

Re: Residuals
I would use valuations from sites that are selling the cars to get an accurate price view.
