If you decide to get RS6 C6, I would recommend buying a forum car. Make sure its had the oil pump seal changed and drivers side wheel arch coolant pipes inspected recently for corrosion at a minimum or been changed ideally, these jobs can cost around £5k to get put right, so don't be tempted with cheap cars on sites like eBay, autotrader, pistonheads etc.
I looked at fair few C6 RS6's before I bought mine and all of them were wet with oil under the engine and had corrosion on the coolant pipes no matter the mileage (except for the one I bought
)
Buy the lowest mileage your budget will allow, with full service history.
Also pay attention to condition and make of tyres, these are expensive to replace, likewise with the brakes.
The pace, refinement and quality of the C6 RS6 is simply amazing. You wont be disappointed.

I know there's a certain prestige behind RS products but in terms of bang for your buck the B8 S4 seems to be a vast amount of car that can offer way more performance than its RS brother (careful buying and consideration of gearbox required though). So if the budget is a bit tight, something like that offers vast potential without being massively stretched on the budget and living in fear of massive depreciation.
I recently bought a C6 RS6 below the price band that you're talking about and managed to get lower mileage, 1 owner car with good history but knowing it needed a lot of work (hence the low purchase price) and have subsequently spent a lot sorting the brakes, full service at MRC etc etc. That said, for the amount of money I have in it, the performance is insane and you have an awful lot of car for the money. The trouble is I don't think it's particularly easy to get to that point without spending a bit more than the budget you're suggesting.

Was a M3 e46 - gutted to get rid of it as spent fortune on it with Airbox and mapping it for occasional trackdaysmarc1 wrote:^ Dynamically though Graham compared to your M3? Which M3 was it too?
