Time for new brakes
Re: Time for new brakes
If I was staying steel I'd still use my AP discs again but probably replace my DS2500 front pads for the Pagid RS29's when the ferodos are worn.
The DS2500's are a great pad and they've done 170-40mph 49 times on a trackday with no noticeable fade but I think I'd like to try the slightly better heat management of the Pagid's next.

Well it is a little "stalkery" of you to copy me so thoroughly, but I am flattered
I'm heading down the ceramics route at the moment if you're up for that? However, I'm thinking about your SAI/Kombi delete for when my engine pops out for the oil pump seal in Dec, sorry

Re: Time for new brakes
All I can say is staying steels regardless of brands with uprated pads etc etc etc is just only going to be slightly better and IMO, wasting money. You guys really need to experience the OEM ceramic set up to know what I'm talking about.
Do it once and do it right that's what I'll say

david I will never track the car and it will only get occasional fast motorway use and some a/b road driving, so i'm thinking can I warrant a full oem ceramic setup especially when I intend to sell car within 24 monthsclassba wrote:All I can say is staying steels regardless of brands with uprated pads etc etc etc is just only going to be slightly better and IMO, wasting money. Re: Time for new brakes
rtd - A used C6 RS6 full setup I managed to stumble on via a breaker on eBay.de who I bought something else from. I asked what else he had and luckily he had ceramics on a newly arrived car which hadn't been broken up yet so they hadn't even been advertised yet!
They're off the car but I'm waiting for them to be boxed up and a shipping cost worked out due to the weight/packaging required to ensure the make it here safely. I told him I'm in no rush for them as they won't be fitted until mid-Dec anyway.
[man-maths] As a bonus these are almost "zero cost" if you keep your original steels too. They'll never make any money if sold with the car, so swap back to steel when it's time to sell the car and sell the ceramics and you'll still make back what you paid for the ceramics originally.[/man-maths]

Re: Time for new brakes
IanH755 - what if the discs are a bit knackered or something then you will have to buy new does buying s/h not worry you, this is what makes me hesitate on s/h ceramic setups.

Re: Time for new brakes
G, I can't comment or recommend you on that because I don't know how you drive. Put it like this, steels on a stage-2 tune or above C6 is IMO a death trap waiting to happen and I would never buy a tuned C6 without ceramics knowing what I know now. Yes, it is expensive but IMO, your life is much more so.rtd wrote:david I will never track the car and it will only get occasional fast motorway use and some a/b road driving, so i'm thinking can I warrant a full oem ceramic setup especially when I intend to sell car within 24 monthsclassba wrote:All I can say is staying steels regardless of brands with uprated pads etc etc etc is just only going to be slightly better and IMO, wasting money. Classba -
although I think saying the steels are a "death-trap" is a little harsh.
It's a gamble yes but without winning the lottery I couldn't afford the £14k for a new set right now but under half of that is OK.
Worst case I'll keep the steel on for the time being while I get the discs refurbed at SICOM for under 1/2 of OEM price.

I've got him to pop them individually on a set of scales, they are 8.450kg new and if they've lost any more than 50g they're worn, and both of mine are at around 30g (8.420kg) so far and he's sent pics showing that there no nicks, cracks or missing material on the faces.rtd wrote:IanH755 - what if the discs are a bit knackered or something then you will have to buy new does buying s/h not worry you, this is what makes me hesitate on s/h ceramic setups.

You can call me Miss daisy
I drive in Kent, home of 10 million crap/foreign drivers and the two roads everyone uses!
I've even driven over 250 miles all round Kent on a Sunday from 5am trying to find good/quiet roads and all I got was a "we caught you speeding - don't do it again or else" ticket from one of these community zones - at 6:15!!!! what are they doing up at that time on a bloody Sunday!
I love visiting MRC as the Cotswolds are my old stomping ground and I adore the roads around there!

Re: Time for new brakes
is £933 a good price for OEM front discs and pads?
Re: Time for new brakes
Thats pretty good, nearly £150 cheaper than Audi direct I think (£800 for the discs and £270 pads).
