Anyone have an ECU for sale?

Post by RMC83 » Mon Sep 23, 2024 2:58 pm

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately i've had an ecu issue over the weekend. The workshop still has fault finding to do, given i've been on the back of a tow truck for 350km today, but lookimg like i might need a new ECU?

Does anyone have one or know the best place to look for one that can then just be re-programmed to my car?

Cheers
Roy

New ones are over €1500 from Audi - Part No 4F1910552DX - but a similar part number with a different end letter (depends on year etc and whatever bulletin 9-85 says - can't find it) may be available on eBay etc -

4F5910552
4F5910552A
4F5910552B
4F5910552C
or
4F1910552E

Thanks for the info.

Would I be correct in saying the 5.2l S6 ECU would be suitable for our RS6? The part no 4F1910552 seems to be common accross both cars.

Thanks
Roy

Think it will just be 1 ECU. Still trying to get to the root cause of the issue, but the issue looks to be with only 1 ECU.

Hmmm...update seems to be that the check sum errors are affecting both ECU's. So looks like i may be looking for a pair.

Does anyone know whether the last digit (ie, the letter) on the ECU part number is specific for our car, or whether A,B,C etc are all interchangable as long as the actual part number (ie...4F1910552 is the same)?

Cheers
Roy

Having had a deeper look, its definitely only the 4F1910552D (or 4F1910552DX for an exchanged ECU) thats for the RS6, all the other letters are for other models like the S6/A6 etc - the physical device has the same part number whether its an ECU for an A6, S6 or RS6 etc but the Letter defines what software is installed and its that software which defines which car it will work on.

Sadly I've no idea about what ECU Security measures Audi might use to lock-down their ECU's so I would NOT take the risk buying a "same part number but different 'non-RS6' letter" ECU and then trying to add RS6 software on top because I've no idea if that would even work from a security standpoint, plus you'd need the actual full RS6 software file, not just engine maps etc but everything "RS6" that the ECU's deal with.

Bosch (who make the ECU) do have a repair scheme for checksum errors etc but, like anything RS6, its not cheap at 600Euro per ECU - https://www.bosch-repair-service.com/en ... s02371001/

Hi Ian,

Interesting. The number on my ECU's is 4F5910552B. However there is also another number on the ECU's which is 4F1907552A My car is a 2010 Saloon plus model. Not sure what the difference is between these numbers. Both of which are on both ECU's. Any idea?

Cheers

I think I've made this very confusing for which I'm sorry.

From the numbers you've shown on your ECU I think this is actually a set of "hardware" AND "software" part numbers i.e. Pt No 4F5910552B is the for the Hardware (the physical ECU) AND the Software combined, whilst Pt No 4F1907552A is just for the Software thats installed on it (not the ECU itself) - because when I search for that "software" number it only brings up the ECU software files being sold by a whole bunch of chip tuning companies.

Again, sorry to make this so confusing.

Hi Ian,

No problem at all & thanks for info as always, much appreciated.

My ECU's are in for repair now, so fingers crossed they can be fixed as opposed to having to source new ones.

I've been having a think about what could cause this fault, bearing in mind my last ecu failure. One interesting aspect is that both times, ecu failures have come after 3.5hr drives. So i'm wondering whether the ecu running time is the cause? I've had no issues over the past 3yrs with the car, but i note that all my day to day driving & blasts a weekends, in terms on ecu running time have all been in the region of 1-2hrs max. I've done two 3.5hr drives in the last 3yrs & after both, the ecu's have crapped themselves. Both 3.5hr drives were not hard drives either, cruising at 140kph which leads me to think the issue is something to do with ecu running time, or the load on the ecu for this type of duration. The cars running 750whp, so i guess that's alot more work the ecu has to do vs stock, which over an increased running time could maybe have an effect on one of the micro chips within the ecu. I've had many more aggresive 1-2hr drives over the years, & no issues at all, so just wondering whether its a ecu running time related issue.

Anyone else had this issue or heard about it happening and whether it could be something to do with the running time of the ecu?

Cheers
Roy

I drive about 4hrs to 4.5hrs non-stop every 6-8 weeks visiting family/friends back in my home town, and I occasionally drive around 3.5hrs non-stop to see bands in Wolverhampton with another 3.5hrs drive back a few hours later and I've not had any issues with my ECU's so far.

However, just because mine seem OK doesn't mean that there's not a wider issue, it's just that I'm not suffering from it.

How does your ECU problem show itself as you drive past the approx 3.5hr point?

The cars running 750whp
From that I take it that there's non-OE maps on the ecus?

Correct, i'm running stage 3, which maybe contributing to the issues, so it would be good to know if anyone else has experienced something similar. The fault appears as a check sum error code on both ecu's.

Its the check sum error codes that show up, on both ecu's.

Attached is the photo of the error code.
