DRL brightness adjustment?

Post by Doug_RS6 » Sat Feb 27, 2021 10:24 pm

Does anyone know if the DRL can be made brighter? Recently fitted some new headlight bulbs and but contrast the DRL look a bit dull and yellow.

By-pass the earth lines with thick new cables to a good, clean, local ground.

If you measure the voltage drops round the circuit, you'll often find you lose around a volt on the return.

Just make sure you don't by-pass a switch or relay or fuse - very occasionally they're downstream of the load, which is a bitch.

Sadly it''s no to both. The DRL LEDS are on a strip so you'd have to replace the entire strip and there's nothing on VCDS for brightness. I looked at a Mod someone in Europe had done which was to replace the entire strip of White LED's with a strip of RGB addressable LED's (multicolour) so that they were White when driving but when you indicated the DRL's turned orange and could then be programmed to sweep like the newer C7 versions do.

It's the white strip in this picture -

That's unfortunate. It was just a passing thought as its nice to have everything the same colour tone. I replaced the OEM bulbs with 6000k ones as they seemed yellow compared to DRL now its the opposite. I did intend to change the foglights to LED but the supposedly canbus safe bulbs weren't.

I recently got my lights upgraded, better projectors and additional projectors instead of the fogs (I.e. quad projectors) with 6000K osram bulbs in all 4. At the same time the drls were modified, (similar to what Ian mentioned) with sweeping indicators built in. These seem much brighter and match the HID bulbs perfectly. I love these upgraded lights, brilliant lighting.

I also got RGB demon eyes fitted, not sure why but seemed a good idea at the time.

BTW The DRLs are dimmer when the headlights come on, so maybe worth checking that yours do go dimmer when the headlights are on and aren't in dim mode the whole time
