Re: Oil debate
You can easily do the oil change on your own with axle stands...
You will need a few containers though as there is 5 sump plugs.... three to drain the oil cooler and lines, one for the dry sump tank and one to drain the timing case of the engine.
My best advice for oil is stick to what Audi say, the 30/40/50/60 part of the oil is how viscous the oil is at a temperature of 100Oc our cars once warm will very rarely increase over 100/104Oc so therefore to keep with bearing tolerences and things i stick to the recomended oil weight, there's a reason they spec 5-30 in all the cars.. and Audi's usually live a very long time with very little engine wear....
I change mine every 3-4000 miles same as Ian or if im close to that millage and i do a track day i'll change it after that as the oil really gets some abuse on track.
The one thing that anoys me about the 6 is that no matter how hard you try you cannot remove all the oil i often find theres about 1.5litres left laying around the engine regardless of doing cold drain or a hot drain.
I have no idea how you fully drain the system but my oil is always dark after a change due to contamiation from the oil left in the system.

Re: Oil debate
The stuff sits all over the place. In the cooler (even when 'drained'), in the lines, the anti-foam section of the tank, in pieces of the engine. even if you suck as much as you can from the bottom of the tank there'll still be some in there too. It took 3 weeks to drain the majority of stuff from the cooler of one of my quattros and even after that a small pool collected whilst it was stored. I've had a 5 cylinder head sitting on my bench for years and there's still oil weeping out of it.
A totally drained system is a pain - even though I'f filled it to the maximum mark 10 minutes into the shake-down drive of the quattro the engine started rattling when the oil thermostat opened and best part of a litre of the stuff headed into the cooler and its pipes.

My Stage 2 has been using 5/40 Quantum, supplied and fitted by unit 20. Noticed nothing in terms of freedom of revving (Coming from 5/30) however the engine does run slightly smoother (Probably placebo).
Also it has not used a drop, but did top up twice when running the 30 grade stuff.
I have gone for Fuchs 5/40 Titan Race Pro S as it is ester based for upcoming oil change. On offer with OPIE too 12l for £91 (2x 5l+1lfree) so plenty left for top ups.
Oil has been changed every 3k in my ownership probably OTT but it cant hurt it.
