So did you wrap the perforated pipe and then put the wool back in ?

I actually got Paul back round to open it back up again and cut into the pipe that had been welded around the perforated inner pipe which has now eliminated the drone completely but when accelerating, still sounds good.
I'm much happier now.

Re: Backbox/muffler delete
I'm guessing it's to do with keeping the sound quality close to stock and not tinny at all.discostu49 wrote:Why did you put the wool back in ?
It will probably help with keeping noise out of the inside of the car.

Re: Backbox/muffler delete
Thought I would share my exhaust combination - SuperSprint Decat, Quicksilver tailpipes - Loud on chokes as you would expect, deep drone for normal driving (but quite inside with the windows closed), loud exhaust pop between gear shifts (assume that's because of the decats, or the BOV's are getting old)

Re: Backbox/muffler delete
Have anyone tried this with fixing the pipes aswell inside the muffler?
Re: Backbox/muffler delete
Is that something that can be done at home via VCDS or does it, indeed, need to be done by MRC or similar shop?IanH755 wrote:The 30-45 second long cold start can be mapped down to 2-5 seconds my MRC or alternatively start the car, switch it off immediately and then restart it. I quite enjoy annoying the neighbours early in the morning if I'm honest.

It's a map change so MRC etc, however the "switch it on/off again" method works for freeUngjaevel wrote:Is that something that can be done at home via VCDS or does it, indeed, need to be done by MRC or similar shop?IanH755 wrote:The 30-45 second long cold start can be mapped down to 2-5 seconds my MRC or alternatively start the car, switch it off immediately and then restart it. Switch on/off or start engine/off?IanH755 wrote:It's a map change so MRC etc, however the "switch it on/off again" method works for free

Re: Backbox/muffler delete
Sorry, just to be clear - Switch the engine on (1st time) and then immediately switch it back off, then when you switch the engine on again (2nd time) there will be no cold start.

Re: Backbox/muffler delete
Mine being a straight piped all the way through, is too noisy although I do get a few
i just can't find myself appreciating the
it makes. I will want to get the backbox modified I suppose to dampen the noise.

Re: Backbox/muffler delete
I appreciate this is an old thread.
Q - has anyone left the rear muffler and removed the silencer instead? Any feedback welcomed.

Also appreciare this is an old post but @longman h, just trying to understand exactly what you did to you exhaust. Removed secondary cats, cut open backboxes and removed wool then wrapped perforated pipe before welding back together?longman h wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2016 10:03 pmYup.GBR1198 wrote:So did you wrap the perforated pipe and then put the wool back in ?

I have MIJ custom built exhaust... cats removed together with rear silencers - straight through pipes.
Very nice note when driven on motorways but it does have that droning sound that is tad annoying when driven in low gears / revs.
