Oil burning smoke on cold start up
Re: Oil burning smoke on cold start up
So I bought the car Monday, and I've not had any smoke on start up. It doesn't smoke at all to be honest, so bit of an odd one. Obviously had oil in the intake/combustion chamber from being stood for over two weeks, where from though I don't know.
edited to add - still no smoke, so obviously not a lot to worry about!

Fill it up and enjoy
... compared to other cars I had (and I had few), I must stress out that apart form general wear and tear, V10 RS is surprisingly very high on my "stress-free" agenda.
NOTE: mine is on 105k now and I've done nearly 3.5k during the summer w/o any issues.

Re: Oil burning smoke on cold start up
That was 11 days ago. Started it today to take it out on the road for the first time in best part of two months and it laid down a smokescreen like a destroyer in battle. I've since had a couple of semi-joking (I hope) complaints from my neighbours. Died down after a couple of minutes and cleared completely once the engine was warm.Jim Haseltine wrote: ↑Wed Sep 12, 2018 9:48 amMine does that occasionally. Last night I started it for the first time in 5 weeks or so and had a bit of smoke for 10 seconds or so. It would also cough a cloud out if I booted it which I hope was down to the prodigious amount of oil in the intercooler pipes - I'd estimate that there was best part of half a litre in them, can't be certain because most of it missed my catch tray.
I'll see what happens when I take it out again later.

Strange, how many miles has yours done and has it had the turbos replaced? I was told mine had valve stem seals done by Audi about 40k ago under warranty to stop it smoking on start up. I've used mine every day since buying it last Monday and it hasn't smoked at all.Jim Haseltine wrote: ↑Sun Sep 23, 2018 1:14 pmThat was 11 days ago. Re: Oil burning smoke on cold start up
110K. No turbo work that I'm aware of. It didn't smoke at all yesterday afternoon or this morning. Dunno if it has any bearing on it, but it had been nose up on stands for most of those 2 month and I probably overfilled the oil slightly last week.
Back to commuting in it today, draining the oil from the inter cooler hoses has made a difference, there's no longer a guff of blue smoke when it kicks down.

City driving is an absolute killer consumption wise. They do indeed give you (s)miles per gal when on open roads and other than Ger A-bahn and track there aren't than many places where u can truly enjoy this subtle piece of machinery (sadly)!
have fun and if you are joining Audi International on 13th Oct let's catchup

Re: Oil burning smoke on cold start up
Conclusion: a used turbo leaks a bit of oil sometimes!
