RS6 C6 Modifications

Hello Forum Members,

New to the Forum, and very impressed by the knowledge, people's willingness to share/help, and overall content! Great stuff!

I'm a new RS6 C6 owner (2008, 52kms), and as always fighting the urge to enter the "modified" category... but failing at this. I have been through the Forum details at length and worked up my intended modifications based on a few limitations... these being a) I am not based in Europe and unfortunately can't use the huge expereince of MTM or MRC type Tuners and b) Being on the other side of the world often means a complicated supply chain of highly regarded specialized parts and expereinced mechanics on RS6's.

My car is currently in New Zealand, and I am ready to start a modification session once I can finally decide on my list. Proposed modifications are as follows, with a couple of questions. Any input to these would be greatly appreciated...

1. Complete Service, oil change, new plugs etc - Completed and in "Tip-Top" shape.
2. Replace Air Filters with BMC Hig-flow Items - Parts recieved and pending installation.
3. Replace Secondary Cat's with straight through/X section - Whats the best option here for a drop in replacement? Im not changing the full exhaust, just the secondary Cat removal.
4. I have noted a few comments on failing Diverter valves (Blow-off Valves) - Can anyone advise on their expereince on these after a remap? Are they prone to failure? What are some reputable replacement options? Forge?
5. Remap ECU - Unfortunately, due to location, I am going to have to work with a Dyno Tuner based off a standard Stage One Tune and then perfect from there. No serious expereince in the area.

Im hoping for anywhere between 650 - 700hp, and just looking for something a little more aggressive than stock. Unfortunately, I have not found anyone in NZ offering a Gearbox remap... Has anyone found a DIY option through hand controller or similar?

Any help on these would be greatly appreciated...

Hi emb46, welcome to the forum and remember to have a read of the humorous FON rules linked above.

To help with some of the points -

3. Supersprint from Italy do a "drop in" section but it's just as easy (and probably much cheaper) to get a exhaust guy to make a set instead as it's a fairly simple job (costs about 1/2 as much as the Supersprints here in the UK). The main reason they're replaced in the UK is that MRC can get a good amount of extra torque out of a map without them fitted. As you've not got access to MRC, while there's nothing to stop you removing them, I don't know whether your Stage 1 map will be able to take advantage of their removal but it doesn't hurt if you decide to remove them anyway.

4. BOV's are pretty reliable on the C6 platform, I haven't seen any complaints yet where as the older C5 cars had quite a few. There have been a few people who have replaced the stock items with a generic Forge item (there's no C6 specific one) but that's very rare (I think only 2-3 on here).

5. Most generic stage 1 maps (Revo, MTM etc) will make high 600's so you should be happy with matching but that if your tuner can extract a bit more, while staying away from Detonation, I'd expect low 700's. However, Revo now do a Stage 2 map and have a dealer in Wellington (details here) which they say is around 720ps but I've nop idea about cost etc. The "generic" maps are all much lower torque than MRC however as the Gearbox ideally needs mapping to remove the torque limits but I've not seen anyway of doing it DIY style unless you can send the ECU to MRC etc (if they're able to do that) and I don't think the generic mappers (Revo etc) can do gearboxes yet (MTM can but only in Germany, no help to you) but there is a company called "JRTuning" here in the UK who, while not well known, have made their own map on their own development car who might be good to talk to also.

You can get a handheld device called a Frieling Racing i flash OBD programmer. This allows you to read and then flash a modified gearbox map yourself.

my drivers side DV went recently, lost about 20ps after about 3500rpm but Doug at MRC found it on a health check and replaced it for me the other week, back upto 730ps now

the stock dv is part of the airbox assembly so was around £165+VAT to replace but considering the car has 132k on the clock and I drive it like a tool every day don't think its bad going at all!

From my C5 days it's generally down on power so doesn't feel quite right and it can have sudden dips in power if the leak is bad enough as the boost is lost (almost like hesitation).

I thought this was DSG only, if not im keen to get one. Nothing ive found to date does the box separate, ive got most tools here but none want to play ball without flashing engine PCM at the same time. We do heaps of ZFs in other platforms but not the Audi one... in my own car lol.

For the 650-700 hp you don't need high-flow air filters and X-section in exhaust.
We try to reach maximum from RS6 with the full Supersprint exhaust (very f..ng loud) and final result was the same as on OEM exhaust w/o cats (just remove everything from OEM cat).

For the filters - my car produces 755hp first 2000 km after air filter replacement and than power start decreasing. So, you can just replace filter more often.

Blow-offs on RS6 quite good, but often fails (I mean something like every 80 000 km) and you need to replace whole filter box.
