High mileage c6's

Post by Td1991 » Thu Jul 06, 2017 7:54 am

Hi all,

I have been looking at c6's for a number of months now, with the aim to get one within the next few months.

I have noticed the number of 100k miles + c6's, with a sub 20k price tag increasing on the auto trader.

What are peoples views on these cars, bargain price super saloon or massive money pit?

I just found a great car on Auto Trader.

Linky no worky?
Trouble with buying on the cheap (and especially with the C6) is that if you get an abused uncared for example it will kill your bank account quicker than a .50 strike! They are expensive to run and you will spend half your life filling it up and the other half enjoying draining the tank! Check the stickies for the normal checklists but the main ones (oil seal and coolant lines) tend to crop up at some point and usually well before it hits 100k miles. If it's been sorted then all good and they are generally bombproof. Do NOT just get into the first one you find and hunt around for the best one you can on your budget. Took me three months and a plane ride to get into my old C6 and at least two of the closest ones I viewed were dogs that would have been money pits. Truly epic cars but dated (C6 platform launched in 2005). If possible get one thats for sale on here as they will have been cared for and not abused by idiots. Also the knowledge and advice on here is second to none and generally people are mega helpful. Hope you get the right one soonest and enjoy!

Try these links.

Thanks for the reply. From my research the oil seal and the coolent lines are the only main issues.

Most of the cars for sale quote these have either been done by Audi or an Audi specialist.

Ok those worked! All the cars look good but generally they all do! The silver one has a good spec-ACC is fantastic (have the newer version on my C7) and well worth having. Soft close doors are overrated imo as you spend half your life telling people not to slam the door....then they slam them.
Colour wise they're all good-go for the best spec and lowest mileage and the silver one seems to meet that. You can always get a car wrapped to change colour. All of them will be 2G MMI but that's the way it is. 3G gets you more but obviously more money.
As for the leaks the coolant line is an easy one to check-get on your knees with a torch and look at the drivers side wheel arch with the tyre turned away. Corrosion will be obvious and check threads on here to see examples. Oil leak you will see staining under the pan or (if the car has been stood still for a while) a small puddle of oil. Seeing as the cars are over 100k miles Audi extended warranty is a no-no so make sure you see evidence (and when) that the work has been carried out. All C6's suffer from the dreaded two at some point and they are expensive fixes.
