Little niggles

Post by stevo55 » Tue Jan 10, 2017 3:59 pm

Coming up to 9 months of ownership of my 'loon and a few minor niggles that have been bugging me are:

Lights. The past couple of months I've been doing a lot of driving in the dark to and from work. Compared to my missus' MY2011 Cayenne (which has xenons also) my lights are pretty pathetic! Just about adequate and he difference between the two is amazing. I know Trups is well known on here for his light upgrades but that runs at about £2k I think? Any other suggestions?
Front screen misting over. I've found myself constantly having to get my front screen blower going. No biggy but for such a big car it seems to fog up depressingly easily in this gash weather we've been having.
I should probably wind my neck in and keep reminding myself that our cars are built on the C6 donor model that is around 9-10 years old now. Compared to similar aged quality marques though it seems poor.
Have found myself looking at C7 RS6's but they are still around the £50k region (at their cheapest). Together with the Audi full warranty I'm paying around £660.00 per month for mine and can't justify the £1k pm a C7 would be (unless someone on here has found a cheaper price in which case am all ears!!).
Aside from that I completely love this legendary battering ram of a car and the affect it has on other road users

Trups lights were under £1k (think mine were £650-ish) unless you spec them with lots "cosmetic" extras like painting, etching & CF etc and they are stunning!

Misty front screeen, check the pollen filter area under the bonnet for blocked drains and check the tailgate too (pop the open/close button out and feel for water) as the high level brake light seals can get leaky.

Blocked drains are almost certainly the cause. If the inside is misting up a lot the glass will need cleaning - the condensation attracts dust which sticks to the screen which in turn gives the moisture something to condense against - sort of vicious circle sort of thing.
As far as the lights are concerned, I think they're better than what I was used to although the high beams are almost a waste of space - having said that, it doesn't bother me 'cos I'm lucky enough to have excellent night vision so rarely use them but will be upgrading the bulbs to Nightbreakers or similar the first time that I have the bumper off (but only to stop 'erindoors having a heart attack every time I drive her anywhere after dark).

Thanks for the advice fellas as always! Will have a look at the blocked drains today and see what's what.

Just had a look on Amazon they look hilariously good value (around £16!) but after looking on other threads on lights it would seem that changing bulbs on the RS is a bit of a mare. Any ideas on a suitable workshop in the Herts/Cambs/Beds area?

I'd double check you have the right bulbs as £16 seems stupidly cheap

Ian I just had a quick look on you tube (I'm not the mechanical God like many on here) and the pollen filters would seem to be housed under the glove box area. Where would the drains be? Had a quick look under the bonnet and removed the cover nearest the windscreen but am none the wiser.

The misting can be solved by checking the pollen filter. Do a swap and give it a good hoover in the slot and it will stop.

I found the car misted up really bad when I had the air con on all the time sombody said it's the moisture of the air con wich builds up over time, I gave the windscreen a good clean with domestic glass cleaner and I now run the car about wit the air con switched off ( eco switch red ) and never had an issue since
