Oh.. ffs

Post by Jim Haseltine » Thu Nov 10, 2016 9:06 pm

Had a call to make this evening, but need to take some stuff from home so rather than muck about reversing into the drive just to leave again a couple of minutes later, I left the RS parked half on the pavement outside and being a :knob:, I managed to leave it in drive AND didn't set the handbrake. Something made me turn around just as I opened the house to see the car slowly rolling back down the road. After the quickest 20 metres I've covered on foot ever, I got the door open and the hand brake on fractionally after the LHR of the car bushed my neighbour's front wall.
Nothing major, but it'll need a small (and I do mean small) crease in the wing pushing out and some paint.

I'll admit to swearing for a few minutes.

Could have been so much worse, and not a call I would want to make to the insurance company......

Luckily, the crease is easily accessible through the left hand panel in the boot so a bit of massaging should deal with it on Saturday.
I got a "I told you so" from my partner. "I told you - 8 years we drove pieces of crap as daily drivers with no damage, I bought the A1 and after 3 years it looks like I've been banger racing, you've had the RS 6 months and damaged it 3 times. I TOLD you...."

I had to give her that - I've had more 'own fault' incidents since I got the car than I had in the previous 25 years driving.

I run it keyless....
When I parked the car it sounded a warning which (being more used to other cars) I thought was a 'lights on' alarm although as they're on auto I'm now thinking that it might have been because I'd opened the door while it wasn't in park.

And..... that's exactly what it was. Tried parking up in drive tonight - warning beep and a message on the dash about selecting Park and warning that the car can roll, followed by another saying that it won't lock unless it's in Park.
