Sports suspension plus problems

Post by nhojrs6 » Thu Oct 27, 2016 1:54 am

Hi, went to change the settings in the mmi and found that it was set to comfort, changed it to dynamic about 9 secs later it changed back to comfort.
Tried changing it to sport and it went back to comfort, plug in Vagcom and came up with ride height sensor i replaced the level sensor or ride height sensor with a new part from audi but that did not work.
Had a rear shock changed and represuried last year, leaking fluid ,this was done by audi porsthmouth .
So it looks like i have to change the shock where the code is coming from as the part that compresses the spring is not removeable from the shock, is this right!
Anybody else had ant problems with this.

regards john. :D

Having just had a problem with the DRC (burst rear shock)

My DRC is still adjustable through the system, if the light is on that means there is an electronic fault in the system, it doesnt have any corralation to the fluid movement or loss in the system.
Being honest i think its a shocking design, i mean if you didnt have some idea about cars the earliest you'd know about a suspension fault is when it started knocking due to lack of fluid.

Anyway i digress, best thing to do would be to reset and recheck your fault codes, if the code is still appearing "level sensor" then i'd assume it would be then down to either the central control valve or more likely as you stated the strut itself.
Get the code reset and checked again before spending £350+ on a new strut.

I was lucky i got a rear strut from my buddy at TPS for £315

Hi,i did a code reset with Vagcom and half an hour later it returned to the comfort setting so this is a default setting if there is a problem i guess.

Regards john.

In the first fault - J197 is for the Headlight leveling only - there's an arm on the front and rear suspension (left side) and each is linked to a sensor, one of the two is playing up.

in the second fault - It looks like the right rear suspension is physically lower than it should be which you can measure (centre of wheel to arch) to confirm. If it is lower than the rear left then it looks like the DRC could do with a visual inspection for a broken spring, leak check etc and go from there.

Hi chaps, thanks for your response, took car to southampton audi for an hours diagnostic, technician came back with a split plug from shock end this could be causing the problem or control module.
The shock with the split in it was only changed at portsmouth audi last summer so its still under warranty, so it will be replaced free of charge, the tech said if that does not work then replace control module.
Next day got some pilot super sports fitted, when i got back in car went to initialise tyres in the mmi menu then i went through to the suspension settiing and the pointer was sat in dynamic changed it to sport and it held, so it could be control module playing up, so today suspension settings stayed on what ever i chose so now seems to be working.
Next tuesday shock will be replaced, so i will see what happens from their.
