Thinking of jumping from a B7, have a few questions
Hi all,
I currently have a B7 RS but am thinking of moving to a 6.
Having viewed one at the weekend I have a few questions.
1. How noisy should they be when started from cold, my b7 was a lot quieter when started than the one I saw. Can they suffer from chain stretch?
2. Can you view the coolant pipes from the underneath, or is it a case of removing the arch liner.
3. Is the Audi used warranty worth having, or will they just use the wear and tear excuse to avoid paying out.
4. Lastly I looking to spend 25-30k which should be enough to get a sub 60k avant, but the prices online seem to be allover the place?
Cheers, Tom

Thinking of jumping from a B7, have a few questions
Welcome aboard.
1. Depends if it has aftermarket exhausts, OEM exhausts are no where as loud as the milltek and bespoke exhausts, the latter being the loudest. The cold start feature means it will rev to just over 1k and stay there until you can see the engine temperature needle move above 50. This can be coded out.
2. You would need to take off the arch liner.
3. It's worth it as pretty much everything that requires fixing in the engine, is an engine out job. Labour is the killer.
4. Your price range about right for a car that has clocked ~60k.

Re: Thinking of jumping from a B7, have a few questions
Thanks for the quick reply's guys;
The 6 I saw was very noisy from the rear/top of the engine when started from cold. I'm assuming it should be no louder than my 4?
That's a lovely car, but after owning a black car I can't do it again lol.
This one keeps catching my eye, anyone know any into on it?

Tom - When you say "noisy" what kind of noise is it?
Kent_Andy - Wow, that looks to be a great buy at the price!

Ian - There was a loud ticking which I guess are the injectors, but there was a whiring/whining noise as well that didn't sound right from the back of the engine.

Tom - Yeap, loud ticking is the injectors (sounds like a sewing machine). The whiring sound "could" be the SAI pump if it was during the minute after startup but without actually hearing it it's just a rough guess.

I think the uniroyals may counter act the ceramic brake stopping power

Haha. Does make you wonder if any other corners have been cut putting those on.HYFR wrote:kent_andy wrote:if you can go this high get this one,

Or alternatively he needed new tyres before the sale and knew that spending £1k on top range tyres wouldn't be made back so put on a mid-range tyre instead. Of course you can always use the fact that the Uniroyals need replacing to get an extra £500 price drop.

As stated yes they have the ticking noise on start up until all the oil gets sloshed about and the chains gain lube.
You can see the two coolant pipes about the driver wheel without taking the arch or wheel off.
Only time engine really need's to come out is for the coolant pipes or oil seals unit 20 say they can remove the engine for under 2k ....
