air filer life

Just had the '6 in for its 80K service... the MRC performance air filters had to be dumped as they were disintegrating.
Is this 'normal' as the filers are only 12 months old and less than 20K miles as news ones are £156 and IF they only last 12months... are they worth it??? or have i just got duff set?

Totally depends on how they are looked after, you are supposed to clean them up and re-use them.... although i'll be honesty my MRC filters dont look brilliant and they been in about the same time.
I'll be replacing them with some ITG filters, those were much much better quality when i had those in my first RS.

i just changed my MRC ones, 8k and 18 monhts and all that was left was the wire and rubber surround.

Changed to ITG's now. and needless to say alot less crap is coming out the back of the car when i boot it

Who make mrc ? I installed bmc about 4 months ago , seems good build quality and cheap from euro car parts

I've got BMC for well over a year now and they same to be going a great job.

BMC or ITG both great filters, MRC's own are not brilliant IMO so mine will be getting binned when i do a service after its had its rear end sorted bloody cars they are a constant wallet emptier!

I think ITG makes the filters for both MRC and MTM. The MRC ones flows more than the standard ITG filters (according to MRC). I had the ITGs in when I did my stage 2 map at MRC, they changed them out with their own to get more flow. Not confidence inspiring to hear your experience.

Maybe I should try the BMC filters, they are not made of foam like the ITG/MRC filters I think?

TBH MRC and ITGs looked and felt the same, black foam, only difference was MRC has been sprayed onto them, either way they were wrecked

My last car had BMC, with them and sec cat delete on a dyno it made 34hp, I think my current C6 has BMC too, I'm sure I saw a receipt but need to double check when I get 5 mins.

The BMW ones are like the KN filters, built to last.
