Driveshaft / CV Joint Replacement

Post by RS6-T28RPH » Fri Jul 15, 2016 3:25 pm

Have had a clicking noise for some time now, finally isolated it to excessive movement on the inner CV joints, having had a poke about the tinterwebs, looks like the inner joints are OEM parts only whereas the outer joints can be replaced with OEM or aftermarket parts such as Meyle. Has anyone else experienced any joint related noises/issues?

Thanks,
Rich

Have seen plenty of posts about cv joint boots & outer joints which all have 3rd party parts for but nothing specifically about the inner joint replacement.

Not to worry though.

Looking at the lack of threads I'd say they seem to be quite hardy but you could put some info on here about yours when you've replaced them (Pt No's, time, costs etc).

You sure it's not wheel bearings?

Well known fact they fail and make excessive clicking noise?

Have already replaced the wheel bearing as that was my first thought, been through discs, pads, spring clip set for calipers and wheel bearings so far and still no change, the clicking is still there. Going to get a pair of inner CV joints ordered in from TPS and see where we have to go from there, the clicking noise is best described as the same that comes from a torque wrench.

As a side point, I dont know if this has been posted elsewhere, but this site is spot on for part numbers http://www.etka.me

Hi Ian,

Will get photos and diagrams posted up when we do the replacement, was hoping it was just going to be the outer CV joint as Meyle do a replacement, having fitted Meyle arms with their higher density bushings i'm really happy with the feel compared to stock arms, front end felt a bit more all together however the old arms were worn so not the best comparison i guess!

Cheers,
Rich

Could be a long shot, but i saw a video today about changing the CV joint and he mentioned the ABS sensor being pushed too far in can rub against the cogs of the CV joint if you know what I mean, producing a clicking noise??
