Oil leak help!

Post by TomRS » Mon Jun 27, 2016 2:23 pm

Right,

So i haven't had chance to put the thing into the air and take a proper look yet, but theres a decent size pool of oil under the car (100ml) after it being left stood for a few days.
I started it up to see if i could see anything and it doesnt seem to leak when running, only when turned off.
I moved it and came back again to another oil patch so certainly wasnt a one off.
Strange thing is, this has only happened since covering 1200 miles to lemans and back, it was totally fine before this but i think the savage heat of being sat for 3hrs in traffic has done some damage to a seal.

Is this the oil pump seal that is leaking? i suspect so as its passenger side that the oil is coming from or should i be looking out for other things?

From your description of the amount and position, if it was my car I'd be thinking of the seal. Mind you, it's in the nature of engines to leak and oil moves around until it finds somewhere from where it can drip to the ground which is often some distance from the actual leak.

Drop the undertray and take a good look around the oil pump. Here's some various pics of what/where to look -

I'll drop it this saturday and see whats what... does look like the pump area, which makes more sense by the fact she only leaks when switched off....

Do anywhere do the fix without dropping the motor? haven't got the money to drop it and do all the other things i'd wanna do while it was out.

Tom I'm surprised you've not take the engine out yourself!

Sorry to hear this mate, I really hope you can get it sorted though.

Unit 20 can do the seal without removin the engine? On my last rs6 I called up mrc and they where 4.5k starting price they said and you can end up replacing a few other parts so could go up to 6k I nearly hit the floor Hahaha

Yeap, MRC have only recently started doing it with the engine still fitted but prefer not to whereas Unit20 have always done it with the engine fitted according to their FB page.

hahaha! im temped mate, but dont have my ramp setup yet (just got it) and from looking through Elsa.. it looks a long long long job, not that i mind.. but tying up the ramp for a few weeks right after i've fitted it isnt ideal.

I have spoken to a few people so pending what i find this saturday when i get underneather her (if only that was meant in a good way) then i'll go from there.

I'd love to drop it and built it up with bigger turbo's etc but at the moment i just cant justify it, another 6 months time then yeah but i've had a few expensive holidays and time off work, plus my Le-mans trip last week and its wiped the bank balance out, hence me asking if anywhere does it in situ just so i dont have to get a loan to do everything else i want to do.

Thanks guys!

TomRS I think Unit20 is your best bet, everywhere else is engine drop job.

I don't drop the engine , Full job is just under £1900 with all new seals and a water pump as it has 2 internal seals that will also leak oil .
We need the car for 2 days and can provide a loan car .

Grizz,

We spoke on the phone about it, price seems fair however... its having 2k to pay for it, so i'll have to get in touch when the cash is there ready to go.
Thanks for the response!
