Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
I've just been perusing the usual sites and noticed that Vredestein do this tyre for the RS now and was wondering if anyone had tried them yet?
If they perform like the Ultrac Sessanta's then I'll probably give them a shot.
Thoughts??

Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
I have these on the b8. Haven't driven enough to know what they're like properly yet. Give me a couple of weeks and I'll let you know.
Ross, you did a lot of research into them, what's your thoughts?

Just read a review on one of the GTR forums and they seemed to rate them highly.

Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
I've had these before, along with many others. They are ok. Similiar to Goodyear Eagle F1's. Not a patch on Michelin Pilot Sport 2's though and therefore not nearly as good as the top favourite Michelin Pilot Super Sport. My money would be (and is) on MPSS. Don't bother with the rest.
Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
MPSS are getting harder to find for a "sensible" price as I found out a few weeks ago as they're slowly being phased out. I replaced all 4 for £840 fitted (£210 each) where as last year they were £180 each fitted. Plus it took me a week to find them at £210 each as most places wanted nearly £250 per tyre!
Hopefully the new replacement MPSS II will be just as great. I know that MPS4 are "supposed" to be a replacement for most sizes but they're not as good. In fact if I can't find decent proced MPSS I may have to swap to Conti SP6's as they get just as good ratings but have worse wear.

Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
PS4's don't replace Super Sports according to Michelin. Didn't realise the MPSS's were being replaced though. Looking forward to trying MPSS2's now too.
Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
That's good on mpss I paid £217 fitted all in then the £75 fuel card back , but couldn't get any cheaper , seem to be about £179+vat at cost for most people , still not convinced on the sidewalk of the mpss but the grip in the rubber is something else !

Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
From my research, they are highly rated. The B7 boys like them. As above, similar to a Eagle F1 kind of tyre. Not amazing, but exceptional value for money for anything other than driving at 100%. PSS's are awesome and you'll never hear me say a bad word against them (I've put them on both my B7 and C6 and they're amazing). But bang for buck, I think the Ultrac Vorti's are excellent

Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
Marc - it replaces the mpss where the two tyres are sold in the size but in sizes where there is no Pilot Sport 4 then mpss will continue to be sold according to michelin.

Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
That must be to do with the MPSS being phased out then. The PS4 replaces the PS3, which replaced an economy tyre. I watched a presentation on it from Michelin. The PS3 being a tyre found on various 200 ish BHP hatchbacks (including Citroen's
).
Looking at how Michelin have chosen to market the two tyres, it's clear they target different audiences. Even from the choice of tyre width they use in their pictures. All marketing.
From the Michelin site: http://m.michelin.co.uk/tyres/car-tyres#type=type_1
PS4: "Get ready for journeys of sheer driving pleasure in safety, with tyres that instinctively translate your decisions onto the road.
BENEFITS
Excellent steering control and high level of reactivity
High level of safety on wet roads
Michelin’s excellence in longevity
Coming from co-operation with emblematic car manufacturers and from MICHELIN motorsport experience"
PSS: "Born from endurance racing for the most exhilarating drive!
Safety even in the most demanding conditions
The best dry handling
Developed with Porsche, BMW M and Ferrari"
As has been said on other forums, Michelin usually have 3 key tyres promoted at the sportier end. In this regard PS4 > PSS > SC2.
They do still offer many of their older tyres when they are offered as an OE option. Therefore the PS2 still remains, etc.
Will certainly be a shame if they do not replace the PSS fully and leave some tyre sizes with a PS4 as the only option.

Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
Yeah the PS4 isn't an "official" replacement as there will be a MPSS V2 at some point but in most sizes the MPSS and the Pilot Sport 3 are being stopped and the Pilot Sport 4 is taking over. The exception is OEM tyre sizes where both the MPSS and PS3 will continue for around 5 (MPSS) to 10 (PS3) years
Tyre Reviews did an indepth chat with Michelin about it here - http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Wh ... -Sport.htm

Where does the Pilot Sport 4 sit?
- While Pilot Sport 4 replaces the Pilot Sport 3, it’s an improvement on the Pilot Super Sport, not a “new” Pilot Sport 3, in design and technology. In comparative testing in 18" sizes, Pilot Sport 4 outperforms the Pilot Super Sport in 99% of everyday situations, with the added benefit of 10-15% improved wear. The other 1% is on a dry track where the Pilot Super Sport would outperform the Pilot Sport 4 by a couple of tenths of a second around a long track. For more track focused track drivers we will expand the range of Pilot Sport Cup 2 over the next few years.
So the Pilot Sport 4 replaces the Pilot Super Sport?
- No, the Pilot Super Sport will continue to be made in sizes where we have some OE fitments, with some of those in production for many years to come.
Will the Pilot Super Sport be replaced?
- Yes, there will eventually be a replacement model, which will continue the Pilot Super Sport design ethos, and improve the performance of the tyre. As with every tyre we will improve the performance and move forward.

From what I've read, the mpss are better than the goodyears in hot weather conditions ,but not in cold or wet!marc1 wrote:I've had these before, along with many others. They are ok. Re: Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres
Having had GYF1's and MPSS I'd say that the MPSS are actually better in the wet, which may seem at odds with most peoples experience, but at anything below 5'c the MPSS are nowhere near as good as the GYF1.

^ +1. Can't comment on low temps though as I switch to full winters. MPSS are a no brainer.
Shame you C6 guys can't use 275/30/19's as I have a full unused set.
