C6 Carbon Cleaning - 96k miles before and after pics..

Post by IanH755 » Tue Apr 26, 2016 8:57 pm

Hi all, whilst my car was at MRC I thought it would be rude not to have some minor jobs done and, whilst I know that the TFSI engine suffers much less from carbon fouling than our poor B7 brethren, as mine had done 96k miles and never been touched I thought it'd be interesting to see how bad it was and get it cleaned.

Turns out that there was some carbon there but nowhere near the levels that the B7 boys get so even if you're approaching 100k miles it's not a necessity to get it cleaned, however I still got it cleaned off anyway - Hmmmmm Shiney!!!! :thumb:

Nice!
What's the cost for this?

Certainly a good precaution measure

As mine was done along with a whole bunch of other stuff so I've not got an exact price but going from B7 costs (which are much worse and would take longer to do) it's around £450-ish but, as seen in the pics, it's not really that necessary on the C6.

Here's a 44k mile B7 for comparison -

If was cleaned before the SC was fitted then my guess would be that the pressurised air from the SC when booted should blow off any carbon before it can settle, just like the turbos on the C6 do.

If it fitted to an already dirty engine it won't have any "cleaning" effect as the carbon would already be baked on.
