Well the dreaded brake pad warning light came on last week (they were 80-90% gone at the oil change) so assessing options.
I'm loving the car so won't be changing for a while but with 760 on tap I know I need an brake upgrade. I have quotes on the table (albeit without any bartering yet) for steelies at around 1500 a corner through to 15 bags for the muts nuts 'ramics. After speaking to Kim at MTM and he advised that many have gone for front 'ramics only as these obviously take the pounding.
Anyone heard of this ? I would welcome peoples thoughts / experiences / advice
Cheers
Hi rushey,
I can't argue against ceramics for the front, but expensive with need for change to abs, master cylinder etc., I believe.
I have fitted the MTM 405mm steels, and they are very impressive.
Have been tested most recently at standing start 0-1000 metre sprint and pulled the beast up from 261 km/hr in less than 300 metres with confidence whereas previous year OEM 390 mm steels from only 250km/hr were a bit of "whoa nelly" to stop in 300 metres.
I can confirm that I did notice significant braking improvement with the 405 mm steel fronts over the OEM 390 mm fronts.
The 405 mm steels are also lighter than the oem 390mm and have improved cooling vane construction, at least according to Performance Friction, the manufacturers of the MTM rotors.
Our beasts are quite heavy and not really suited for serious track work.
Another forum member has tracked her RS6 Avant and ended up with cracks in her ceramics, a result of very high brake and heat loads. They were expensive to replace

.
So I am sticking with my MTM - Performance Friction 405 mm steels on the front.
I know on lambos, steels and ceramics of equivalent size have same stopping distance. The only advantage that ceramics have over equivalent size steels is that ceramics last a lot longer.
However, on a mates GT3 Gallardo at our local track, the car runs 390 mm steels and they get a workout but don't fade. Rotor rings much, much cheaper to replace than ceramics. See pic from recent night event.
just my two cents worth.
cheers,
john
