Blue dye on cream leather

Post by Haggizbasher » Wed Jul 03, 2013 6:35 pm

When I bought the car there is blue dye on one of the rear seats, unfortunately it's cream leather that is in the car. I have tried a few cleaning products I have in the garage with no success. It looks like its engrained into the leather....! I had a guy come round and have a look (he's been in the valeting business for 5 years) He also tried some cleaning products with no success.... he has taken a small piece of the leather, sent it away and has dye the same colour as the seat..... On Friday he is coming round again and will spray the seat with the dye to cover the blue stain..... I'm starting to get paranoid now.... and just hopes he does a good job (He assures me he will and has done the same to his own TVR)
Has anyone had any experience with dye on the cream leather and re-spraying the seat.....thanks in advance

I highly recommend you to call in a leather specialist to do the job. I don't know much about dying leather but I have seen videos how the pros do it and they dab the dye into the leather rather than spraying it.

You tube is your friend.

No disrespect to your friend though.

If you want to give it one last go, I can thoroughly recommend Gliptone Leather Cleaner. It's usually the go-to leather cleaner for all the detailing fanatics. I hadn't used it until I got my RS6. The seats had a real shine from previous owners neglect and dirt.

I've made two passes with it on the seats so far, and they are back to their factory matt finish. Tried Zaino and Zymol leather cleaners and neither made much of an impact. For a fiver it's got to be worth a go before having the seats reconolised (which is what it sounds like your mate does).

Any idea what the blue stain is ? I hope it isn't a blue jean denim stain as they just don't come out !

Sixspeed, thanks...I'll be getting some of that stuff....
The guy did the work today on the rear seat....couldn't sleep last night thinking about it......lol....anyway....he has done an excellent job! There was also a pen mark on the side of the drivers seat which he removed and some blue dye on the side of the passengers side..... Great job....Anyone in Aberdeen, I would highly recommend this guy....his business is called Smart Techniques, Kevin Brown. He also removed some scratches on the plastic on the drivers door......well chuffed
Rushey....yes it was blue stain...my wife is pretty sure it came off some females jeans....(before I got the car...;-) )
