I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that it's not incorporating some KERS or similar hybrid technology to make it more of a 'tour de force'. A blown V8 is a bit of a cop-out; the C6 engine is far more special.

That said, I'm sure it'll be an excellent car, but it seems it'll just be 'RS-by-numbers' from now on.

So.. Will this mean less scope for tuning? Are they essentially taking it closer to it's limit than they did with the C6? If there's another 20+% to come out of it like the C6, it'll be immense and is going to be good news for new C7 owners... And not so good for C6 ones! ! I've always kind of hoped that the V10 variant was never to be repeated, essentially Audi going 'backwards' somewhat with a V8 - hence making this one a bit special, and a keeper.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

not sure I can see the V8 twin turbo kicking out 700PS just with a remap

base form is 420 PS ( S6)

so if RS 6 is 580PS thats already 160PS up on base

Agreed with previous statement that the C6 is probably the last we will ever see of these big monster output cars. The C7 will be a good car as a package I believe, technically very capable with great spec inside but not the insane concept of taking a Lamborghini engine, strapping on a couple of turbos for good measure and shoehorning it into a car it has no right to be in :kissmyrings:

When the C7 comes out we will have the few C6 owners going on about how much better their cars are (including me) and a whole bunch of C5 owners still going on about how their cars are the best :biggrin3:

thus is a magazine article spreading a rumour...not a proclamation by Audi.

Nobody should be disappointed or excited by any of this.

Different engine, different internals, different turbos, different intercooling blah blah blah. Not the same engine. On top of that the S6 is underrated and on tip of that still, it is also artificially castrated by tuning at about 5500 rpm. The torque curve up to 5500 looks nothing like any other 420 PS car I've ever seen.

What you are saying is like saying a k03 turbo B5 s4 won't be hugely different to a maxed out K04 turbo B5 rs4. The gap there is something like 170 whp or 200 PS when tuning is exhausted. It is entirely possible.

Bigger turbos and a motor build means WAY more upside.

If the 3.8l V6 engine in the GTR is good for 650bhp on standard turbos, then I see no reason why the 4.0l V8 engine in the new RS6 shouldn't be good for 700? If we assume a 580 standard figure, then we're only talking an extra 120 horses which isn't that much more? In my experience companies normally build-in a +30% extra tolerance to an engine, and there's no way that they would run the 4.0l V8 close to its limit without a good degree of built-in tolerance, just in case. IMHO anyway.

No science to my argument, but you know where my logic lies. :)

Mart.
