Whilst investigating a problem this afternoon related to a persistant flat battery over recent weeks (battery is new but will not hold its charge for more than 1 week if car is not used - I assume this is not normal) I have somehow managed to immobilise my car and it no longer recognizes either of the keys (the red lights in the keys just show a series of fast flashes when open button is pushed, and if I insert either key in the ignition it is retained and has to be released using the emergency key release). Does anyone know how the keys can be rematched to the car? Can the RAC do it on site, if not can an Audi dealer do it at my premises or is there some way of doing a user reset. The car cannot be towed from its current position.
Any help would be appreciated as it is the weekend and I am obviously now no longer mobile.
I do know that when the dealer has disconnected the battery in the past they have had to have both keys to "rematch them" so I guess this is the problem.
Seems hard to believe that a brief battery disconnection can leave the car unusable!

Re: Immobiliser & keys
do you have Audi Roadside Assist ?
Re: Immobiliser & keys
I believe the car has to be matched to the key certificates but can only be done whilst connected back to Audi's security server. So I would assume it can only be done by an approved dealer with the appropriate network connection. This is why Audi and Merc have not suffered the same security issue that BMW have as their cars/keys can be matched without connecting back to a central authority system!
I could be completely wrong but this is how I think it works.

Thanks. Yes have had Audi Roadside assist out since original posting but they don't have the equipment to help. Apparently they are going to send a different technician/vehicle back on Monday. Still amazed that a simple battery disconnect can seemingly render the vehicle unusable
