Uneven Tyre Wear
Uneven Tyre Wear
All
Apologies for my lack of knowledge but hopefully somebody can help me.
I am due to change all 4 tyres on my car at 13k miles. This will be the first change of the tyres since new.
However the outside of all 4 tyres are down to 1.6mm but the inside of all 4 tyres is c. 3mm?
Does this not mean there is something wrong with the tracking or alignment etc. or is his normal? I want to get this resolved before I put 4 new tyres on the car. Is this one for Audi?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear
It's not uncommon, in fact is surprisingly frequent, that alignment is poor. Had it with my R32 as new, alignment was terrible, tyres wore to cords on inner edge whilst outside was practically new. RS6 not as bad, but the same applies.
So, get four wheel alignment done, dealer will be able to do it, but so will other tyre specialists, see who offers the more competitive price. Do make sure that they are kitted out for 4 wheel drive though.

Thanks Doodlebug
But does it not mean it must have been out from new?! Feel a bit angry at potentially having to pay Audi or anyone else on car with only 13k miles on it?

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear
How often do you check your tyre pressures with a proper gauge?
Sounds as thou your running under inflated tyres.
Loads of advice on here about tyres, before you spend any dosh just have a check at what pressure is being used by most?
I run mine at 39psi all round and have quite even wear but I do admit to killing them!!
Just a thought!
Don't trust a Dealer!!! Sorry Stealer???

If they were under inflated would inside not be worn as well?
Check tyres every month and 2.7 bar on front 2.6 on rear which is 38/39 psi?

If you are under warranty, you are entitled to a free alignment.

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear
Little trick i always do on both my old 4x4 mondeo and rs6 is cross the tyres front left to rear right, right front to rear left and vice versa half way through their life. gives me more life out of tyres and more even wear.
Quattro in all seasons for Ass Kickin reasons.
